The downtown area was one where no sane person would want to walk through it.
Yet, Soma walked through the dirty area with his head held high.
He had only one destination as he walked through the filthy area.
"Hoh! What do we have here? An up-keeping messenger of the god had come down to the sewer to meet us filthy people?"
"Don't mind him, brother. The god must be looking out for filths like us by sending a rich fella. Look at those fancy clothes."
"This man smells of money. I like it."
Despite being called out and threatened, Soma kept his head up and walked.
His hooded features looked at the eager eyes of thieves around him with vigilance.
"Take me to your boss. I have a proposal for him."
Soma sounded confident, not letting a single emotion show in his eyes.
His lack of personal safety made the leader curious about his decision.
After all, only the most desperate came down here to show what they could offer.
Currently, Soma looks like the perfect image of desperation.
He had made himself stand out as much as he could, but he still needed to wait for the answer from this platoon leader.
"You think you can see Big Brother so easily? Dream on! If you cannot offer me something better-"
A gold chain landed on the ground, shocking the onlookers.
"Will this show my sincerity for your service? I can easily get more if you want me to."
After all, the local church did not lack funding and donations.
It lacked a way to protect itself from the disaster that would strike the earth soon.
"Brother, this is real gold! This man just threw a chain made of pure gold at our feet as if it were nothing. We should just plunder him and-"
The platoon leader was interested now.
"You said that you wanted to meet Big Brother, right? I will take you to him."
The platoon leader stood up, causing his subordinates to gasp in surprise.
Soma decided not to show how tense he felt at this moment.
He had no stats and no skills.
Soma was an average human now with average abilities.
The platoon leader led Soma through the smelly underground to his base.
"Hey, priest, do these smelly parts make you uncomfortable? You don't have to pretend to be so noble before us."
Some of the kids following Soma snickered at the underhand insult that had been dealt him.
But Soma did not feel offended by that jab or the names he was being called secretly.
This sewer was also heaven compared to the kind of environments Soma had seen before.
His relaxed self caused the kids to feel angry.
They wanted Soma to complain about his situation, but he did not allow them to feel that satisfaction.
Finally, they arrived at a club.
It was the middle of the day, but the club was full of vibrant colours and light.
"What's wrong, priest? Are you too good to enter the lion's den with us low lives? This is your last chance to back out."
The platoon leader asked, suddenly going quiet and low-tones.
But Soma could not stop there.
"Of course not! Let's hurry and head in now."
Soma opened the club door, and his ears were instantly assaulted by the loud noise coming from the inside.
'It's too noisy in here. Why does this place feel louder than a battlefield?'
Soma closed his ears to drive the noise out, but it did not work.
"Hey, come this way. I will show you where Big Brother is."
Soma sighed and followed the leader.
The bulky man who was the 'leader' looked at Soma with an interested expression.
"What do we have here? A priest? Oi! Don't you know that I don't believe in religion?"
The boss yelled at his subordinate, but Soma cut him in between.
"I am not here as a priest today. I want to make a deal with you. In return, I will give you all the money you want."
Soma promised, without missing a single beat.
"You will give us all the money you want? Now, I am interested in what you want."
The man asked, and Soma took a deep breath.
"I want weapons as many weapons as you can get your hands on. And I want them by the end of the third week. Do you think you can manage?"
Soma asked, looking at the stunned boss in front of him.
"You want…weapons? Oi! You are not planning to make a gang and pissing me off, right?"
The boss asked in an angry voice. The ladies who sat near him flinched at his anger and quickly got away.
But Soma remained calm and quiet.
"I promise I will not make a gang or threaten you. I just want weapons for my private collection. So, what do you say? Will you supply them to me?"
Soma asked, and the boss looked hesitant.
But he decided it would be best to comply with Soma for now.
'Money is money. If this priest does not make a gang and oppose me, why does it matter what he does with the weapons?'
The boss was rational, but he was a slave to money.
"Alright, you have yourself a deal. I will supply you with weapons."
The man agreed, and that was one burden off Soma's shoulder.
He needed to visit a few more gangs and get the same deal.
He should have enough weapons by the end of the week to start forming a plan.
"This is so interesting. I've heard about corrupted priests before, but this is the first time I've met one. Tell me, where will you get the money to pay for all this?"
The boss asked, but Soma shook his head.
"Don't ask unimportant questions. You should only care about the money you are about to receive."
The boss shrugged before agreeing.
Soma concluded the deal and walked out.
These gangs had the right idea about the world - it was run by money and power.
Unfortunately, the scales of money and power would change in about a month once the tower and system became known.
"Ah, what was the first tutorial about? It has been about 10,000 years since I started, and remembering the details is a little blurry."
Soma closed his eyes and wished he had his system more than ever.
He was sure Kronos had said something about checking his system once he regressed, but that would take some time.
"A month! I only have a month to prepare for what will happen."
So, Soma threw himself back into his preparations and quit his work. Rumours about him started to pop up in the dark side of the world, and soon, everyone knew that he was buying weapons.
But Soma did not care.
That was how the month passed, and Kronos looked at the calm sky of the new year.
He had a few bags that he picked up and walked out.
Only 10 seconds were left before the world would change into a lawless place.
10
The moon began to glow red.
9
People noticed the change in the moon and immediately took their phones out.
8
"Wow, look at the moon. It is so beautiful tonight."
7
"I don't know. Isn't it a little creepy?
6
The winds began to pick up, causing cold to grip everyone.
5
The snow began to fall, making the irregular weather blizzard.
4…3…2…
Soma picked up speed, trying to reach the central plaza as soon as possible.
1…
The fireworks exploded, and a red room split open in the shape of an eye.
[Initializing world date…beginning tutorial stage…. gathering participants.]
Everyone looked up and gasped as the moon changed colour and shape.
It was no longer that red ball but a bloodied eye.
"Is this some kind of joke? Hey, it's not funny."
Someone complained, but Soma knew that this was not a joke.
[Welcome humans to the tutorial stage. Your first objective - to survive the next 24 hours.]
The apocalypse had started.
"H-Hey, this is a joke, right? Soon, the camera would roll out, and the host would tell us this is a prank."
"I am sure that this is a prank."
"Wow, such an elaborate prank. I wonder how it was created. Did they use the latest holographic technology-"
The girl died before finishing her question.
She was not the only one who died.
Many other people started collapsing, and then someone noticed it - a Zombie.
Soma did not have time to let people figure out what was happening. He grabbed a gun and quickly shot at the nearest zombie.
It died because of the chemical that was coated on the bullet.
'I remember that zombies are weak against salty water since it causes their mass to melt away. '
Luckily, it was a helpful trick against low-level necromancers in the past, and it also worked this time.
"Good! This is working! I only have 24 hours, so I must make the most out of this situation."
