Kapitel 46: Realization

Meliza's POV

Eli had left, and I stared at his back figure retreating on the exit. And I saw his men stand up at the back part of the bar and follow him.

"Wow! Who was that hot old man?" Nicole asked as she looked at me.

"Yes, who was that man, Iza? it seemed like you know each other." Ruby seconded.

"Don't ask her, Ruby. She is always comfortable flirting with strangers." It was Ethan who answered.

"It was nothing new; I couldn't believe you would allow an old man to touch you, Iza. What was your game now? Are you tired of chasing wealthy bachelors in the country?" He added, and I felt hurt.

"Watch your mouth, Ethan. If you want to flirt with Iza, you are free to do so as well. My best friend was only having fun. She is the most beautiful woman here, and I am sure that billionaire was captivated by her beauty." Ruby countered Ethan.

"Do you have any idea who that man she was flirting with was?" Ethan asked angrily as I could see him curling his fists over the table.

"I don't know him, but Vince told me he was one of the most influential men in Yerton City, and he was a widower," Ruby responded.

"Yes, and he is a dangerous man," Ethan replied, and I shivered.

"He seemed a good man to me," Ruby responded.

"Don't be fooled by his good demeanor; in terms of business, he can play dirty. He had some history with my father, and Dad warned me never to have a business deal with him. In the corporate world, he was called Mr. E." Ethan declared.

"Next time, you should behave yourself, Iza. Don't ever flirt with a stranger who is more than twice your age. Why do you always cause trouble?" Ethan asked, glaring at me, and I had enough of his insults.

"So what? It was none of your business, Ethan." I hissed.

"Yeah, but you are staying at my place. I don't want any of my guests to cause trouble, and so far, you ace it, Iza. You had done nothing but bring chaos wherever you go. You better stay at the farmhouse." He responded with disdain on his face.

"I knew him; he was Elijah," I murmured.

"What?" Ruby asked with a horrified look on her face.

"Are you okay?" She asked. And I nodded, and Ethan stood up from his seat and came closer to me.

"How did you know him?" He asked.

"Elijah is my fiance," I responded, and he stepped back as his face paled and our friends gasped.

"I didn't inform him I was coming to San Fernando, and those men who wanted to capture me were his men. He thought I ran away from him." I declared, and I couldn't read the expression on Ethan's face before he turned around and left the bar without saying anything.

Vince and Ruby decided to call it a night, and no one spoke during the ride back to the farmhouse.

"I am sorry if I ruin your night, Rubs. I told you I shouldn't have come." I said.

"No need to apologize. Why did you tell them? I thought you wanted to keep it a secret?" Ruby asked the moment we were alone in my room.

"I wanted to keep it a secret, but Ethan was too much. I didn't want him to look down on me; it was my opportunity to redeem myself. After Ethan said Eli was a dangerous man, it gave me the courage to divulge that Elijah is my fiance." I responded.

"Can you see the look on Ethan's face? He was afraid of Eli." I added, and Ruby shook her head.

"That's what bothers me the most. You can't marry a dangerous man, Iza." Ruby muttered.

"I am sure he won't hurt me, Rubs. Besides, Eli ordered me to tell everyone he was my fiance." I replied.

"I guess it was for the best," I added.

"Ethan wasn't happy about it, Iza," Ruby said with seriousness.

"He has no right to meddle with my personal life, Ruby. He hated me; he must be happy that I am marrying a dangerous man." I replied, and her face fell.

"He was concerned about you, Iza." She stated.

"I don't think so, Rubs. Can't you see how angry he was with me? I knew I hurt Ethan. But I apologized to him. I chose him five years ago, but he only made me believe he loved me too, but in the end, he broke my heart." I responded.

"Ethan picked Nicole over me, and I wondered why they ended things between them, and he is now with a different woman, whom I think is more suitable for him," I added.

"They aren't; you and Ethan would always be perfect for each other." My best friend replied, and I chuckled as I shook my head.

"Please, I am tired. Just accept the fact Ethan is now happy with his love life." I answered.

"No, Ethan only brought Sylvia to make you jealous, I am sure; he was still looking at you the same way you weren't looking at him. I am sure he is still in love with you." Ruby stated.

"Rubs, let us not talk about my ex. Let us talk about my future husband. I admit seeing Eli tonight made me feel scared, but at the same time, he made me feel secure. He looked gorgeous even if he was more than twice my age. I think he will be a good husband to me." I declared, and Ruby's face fell.

"Meliza, I don't know how to help you, but as your BFF, I will do everything I can to save you from that man. I don't want you to be a trophy wife. You deserve to be happy." She muttered.

"We can't fight destiny, Ruby. I am happy that you found the right one for you. Your happiness means a lot to me. Don't worry about me; I already accepted my fate." I replied.

"Don't lose hope; I will find a way to alter your destiny." She responded with determination, and I laughed.

"You know me, I won't stop until I find a solution," Ruby added, and I weakly smiled at her.

"Thank you, Rubs, but I don't think you can help me this time," I replied.

"Watch me," she responded.

The following night, we threw a bridal shower for Ruby, and I had so much fun with the girls. It shocked me that Nicole and Crystal talked to me as if we were friends. I was sure they were doing it for the bride, and I went along with them.

There was a lot of food and flowing mocktail drinks since we wanted all to be sober. The games were hilarious, and we laughed and had so much fun.

Ruby got a lot of presents, mostly lingerie and sexy night dresses.

"For your honeymoon," I teased her, and she blushed.

"Thank you, girls; I was expecting you would hire a striptease dancer and put him on a box," Ruby said after she opened all the gifts, and we all laughed.

"I was glad you didn't. The games were amazing and fun. Thank you for throwing me a bridal shower; it means a lot. You all made my day extra special, and I couldn't wait to marry Vince." She added, and we all came closer to her as she offered her hands, and we hugged.

The night before Ruby's wedding, she crushed inside my room and told me she would sleep beside me, just like the old times. I realized how much I miss our sleepovers. We were lying on my bed facing each other, talking nonstop.

"Ruby, tomorrow is your wedding day; you need a beautiful rest," I said.

"I don't know if I could sleep; I felt restless, Iza." She responded, and I took her hand.

"You don't need to feel that way; tomorrow, you marry the man you love. You have nothing to fear." I responded, and she smiled as she squeezed my hand.

"Thank you for being here with me. I hope you feel this way before your wedding day, Meliza." She declared, and I smiled at her.

"Of course, I will be happy, just like you," I replied.

"Stop worrying about me, Rubs; I am no longer a kid. I needed to make a wise decision for my family. Even if I hated my mother for conniving with Fred, she is still my mother, and I don't want to have a grudge against her forever." I stated.

"Of course," she replied.

"I ran away for nothing," I added, and she looked at me for a long time with a quizzical look on her face.

"What is that supposed to mean?" She asked.

"If I didn't run away, I guess I have a better life now," I answered.

"If I were in your shoes, I would do the same." She replied.

I wanted to tell Ruby I ran away since I was still hopeful that I would meet Ethan again one day and things would get better, but I was wrong.

He wasn't the man I knew, and what we had was based on lies. And now, I am still hurting while he is enjoying his life with his girlfriend as if we didn't have a history. I hated myself for still remembering the sweet moments I shared with him and longing for his kisses until now.

I came to the realization that I needed to move on with my life and completely forget about Ethan Almendraz.
