Leaving them food for a day...It wasn't a sign of Charles's compassion.
If he didn't leave food, Charles worried these people might complain to the military.
By leaving food, even if they wanted to complain, it would likely be delayed until tomorrow.
By then, the temperature would rise sharply, and the glaciers would melt, trapping them there.
How they survived after that...as their own concern.
Charles couldn't possibly incorporate all these people. Supporting his own group of about two hundred was already a stretch. To add another hundred would be beyond his means of providing food.
However, before leaving, he made an announcement:
"I welcome those among you with skills. If you think you have something to offer, you're welcome to join me. Whatever you did before, I'll overlook it."
Having said that, he left.
Being away from his base for so long and active outside, Charles felt uneasy, especially with the military nearby. A careless move could lead to being surrounded.
"Charles, we've really followed the right person this time!"
On the way back, Jacob excitedly spoke to Charles: "David's power is beyond our imagination!"
"That's right." Charles felt a bit of pride. If not for his discernment, they might have ended up provoking an opponent like Brown, way out of their league.
David surely used witchcraft, magic!
To kill an enemy from home, and let them die so miserably.
If David used that method on them...Charles shivered at the thought, once again grateful for his wisdom.
"As long as we firmly follow David, there's no fear of not surviving the apocalypse."
What they didn't know was that David only had three floating bombs. To deal with Brown's group, who dared to attack him, David used two, saving the last one for emergencies.
He found them to be excellent tools, useful not only for killing but also for creating illusions.
To Charles and his men, David's ability to kill Brown from a distance seemed like magic indeed.
After eliminating those who dared attack him, David's anger subsided.
He approached the broken window, reigniting his extinguished rage.
The window had been pierced by a sniper bullet, compromising the thermal insulation of his house. Even with his room-temperature walls emitting heat, it couldn't last long.
David put on his thermal vest and blocked the window gap, thinking next time he'd have to prioritize window upgrades. The doors and walls were almost secure, but the windows were still too vulnerable.
He lay down on his bed, planning to nap. He had exercised in the morning, kept a vigilant eye on the military movements, and had been psychologically shocked by the sniper. He needed a good sleep.
Waking up at 4 PM, he noticed it was warmer outside, probably close to zero degrees.
Today's temperature would stay around zero, but tomorrow, it would reach a scorching 60 degrees?
The extreme heat apocalypse was about to begin.
Half an hour after he woke up, Charles and his group returned.
The journey from Brown's warehouse, only three or four kilometers, was treacherous with jagged ice and careful steps required.
As if sensing the end of the extreme cold, small hail fell from the sky, delaying their return.
Upon returning, Charles directly went to David's door.
"Brother David, your way of killing unseen is admirable!"
Laughing in the corridor, he said, "Meeting you in this apocalypse is my life's greatest fortune!"
David chuckled. Charles, once a boss before the apocalypse, was surprisingly good at flattery.
"Now a major threat is gone, You can prepare for the apocalypse with ease."
"Haha!" Charles said, "All thanks to you, David. I know you're a godlike figure, not concerned with us mortals. We didn't contribute much to this action, just basked in your glory."
Clapping his hands, someone approached from the corridor.
"These are some spoils from our action. Feel free to take them, David."
David curiously looked and found an array of guns!
A sniper rifle, an assault rifle, two pistols, and some sniper bullets.
Great stuff!
David, now knowledgeable in firearms, only had a small pistol.
Previously, he thought guns were useless since he didn't go out. But being targeted by a sniper was a wake-up call. No matter how safe one feels, one should always be prepared and strengthen oneself.
Besides, he could snipe from his building.
"Thanks, Charles! I'll gladly accept these," David said.
Charles responded:
"You're too polite. These are rightfully yours. Without you taking down Brown, I couldn't have gotten these weapons so easily. I should be thanking you."
"If we've decided to form an alliance, there's no need for such talk."
"Alright, then I'll gladly accept these weapons." David knew his actions had instilled some fear in Charles, who was now trying to appease him.
So, he was willing to satisfy Charles's gesture.
