Javier approached her. His gaze flickered between her and the room she had emerged from. "Why did you come out of there?" 

Yvonne met his gaze; her demeanor relaxed, but her mind was racing for a plausible explanation. With a casual smile, she replied. "I was going to use the bathroom, but I got lost." 

What kind of excuse did she give? She really hopes the excuse came out right, and he believed her. 

"You were going to use the bathroom, but does that room look like a bathroom to you?" His voice cut through her thoughts, sharp and questioning. 

Caught off guard, Yvonne instinctively stepped back, her mind scrambling for words that would salvage the situation. There was no way she could reveal the truth of why she was there; the consequences were too dire to contemplate. She had to find something believable, something to deflect his suspicions.
