Javier finished the call, the lines of worry etched on. As he opened the hospital door, he saw Helen, who was standing there.
"Hi," Helen nervously greeted.
"What are you doing here?" Javier inquired, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"I overheard your call, and if I tell you, I know how she got the accident; would you believe me?" Helen questioned, as she stared deep into his eyes.
Javier was taken aback by Helen's words, confusion etching across his face.
"What do you mean?' he questioned.
"I...am afraid. If I tell you..." Helen's voice trailed off, her gaze dropping, and she tentatively placed her hand on his arm. "Will you protect me?"
Javier yanked her hand away, growing more impatient. "Will you speak up or not?" he demanded.
"I will speak up, but I am very scared of what that person will do to me if I tell you," she admitted. "So, you have to promise me you will protect me."
"Fine, who is this person?" Javier asked, his frustration evident.
"Dennis!"
Javier laughed at the absurdity of the accusation. Dennis would never do such a thing. Helen, sensing his disbelief, brought out her phone, claiming to have an audio recording as evidence.
"You don't believe me; I have evidence for it."
Javier looked at her skeptically, but his laughter ceased when she played the audio. The voices on the recording were about the planning of the accident, and though the person Dennis was talking to sounds familiar, Javier couldn't immediately place it.
He left Helen there, walked through the corridors, and was at the front of Yvonne's room. Standing there, Javier grappled with conflicting thoughts. Could Helen have manipulated the recording, or was there truth in her claims? The uncertainty gnawned at him as he considered the implications. Just as he was about to enter Yvonne's room, his phone rang. It was Dennis.
"I will be going home; there is something urgent I have to do," Dennis informed.
"Okay." Javier responded.
"Why is your voice sounding like that? Don't neglect your health just because of what is going on," Dennis advised.
"Dennis, do you....." Javier began, his words faltering. Uncertainty and doubt clouded his mind. What if Dennis was really involved?
"What is it?"
"Nothing, forget it." he ended the call.
He dialed one of his men's numbers.
"Look at the camera in my house," he instructed.
"Boss, do you have a camera?"
"Yes, it is hidden." Javier affirmed. "I don't normally watch it, so you have to look carefully and check the street CCTV also. I need them in two hours."
"Sorry, boss, I understand the reason for the street CCTV, but why your house? Do you think someone came to your house while you weren't there?"
"I always tell you; do things first and don't ask questions." Javier retorted firmly.
"Even without you telling us, we have gotten the street CCTV but not your house. So, is your house locked?"
"I don't think I locked it because I was in a hurry."
"Okay," the person said. "By the way, it was a white van that hit her, and your wife seems to be running from something. Not only that, the van was waiting for a particular moment to hit, which makes me sure that someone planned it."
"Check the camera at the house fast." Javier urged.
Javier ended the call and entered Yvonne's room. He tenderly touched her hand, his eyes filled with worry and regret.
"Should I have given you the divorce you asked for?" he pondered aloud. "Maybe if I had signed the paper then, you would have been alright." He gently brushed her hair to the side.
"Did Dennis do this to you? I really hope he wasn't the one; I really hope that." Javier whispered.
[Flashback]
Dennis was tied up in a building, blood dripping from his battered body. Fernado, an enemy of Javier, bit into an apple as he crossed his legs.
"Will you tell me where Javier is?" Fernado demanded.
"I don't know where he is." Dennis replied slowly.
Fernado stood up from his chair, fixing a piercing gaze on Dennis.
"You are just his sidekick; do you think he will care if you are dead?" He spat a piece of apple at Dennis.
Fernado ordered one of his men to strike him, eliciting a scream of agony from Dennis.
"AHHHHH!" Dennis cried out.
Undeterred, Dennis refused to give in to Fernado's demands.
"I don't care; I am not exposing my buddy," he declared defiantly. "If you are not scared, then you will attack him directly instead of being a coward by kidnapping his girlfriend and trying to make him do something for you."
"Shut up,"
Fernado threw the apple, striking Dennis and causing blood to flow from his nose.
"I have all the time in the world to play with you," Fernado sneered.
Turning to his men, Fernado ordered them to leave, leaving Dennis alone in his torment.
Dennis was breathing heavily, and Javier jumped inside from the window. He quickly went to untie the rope.
"Are you alright?"
Dennis looked at him and smiled.
"What are you doing here?" he said. "Have you met with Faith yet?"
"I haven't yet; it was closeby."
Dennis hissed.
"Go and get her," he said. "She is a girl; those men are animals. Don't worry about me; the most important thing is to get Faith."
"I should go?" Javier questioned.
"Yes, go!" Dennis pushed him away.
As Dennis was leaving, he was looking at him, and he was smiling.
[Flashback end]
Javier received a text message from one of his men, notifying him that they had retrieved the camera. They sent him the footage.
Javier played the video, his expression darkening as he watched the events unfold. He clenched his fist, a mix of anger and frustration bubbling with him. Putting his phone away, he muttered to himself, "I wonder what I should do to him. Kill him? What a nightmare!"
Standing up from his chair, Javier left the room.
The next day, unannounced, Javier rang the bell at Dennis house. Dennis opened the door, surprised to see him.
"Want beer?" Javier offered.
