Sarah's POV:
The car was moving, and I tried to clear my mind before arriving at the office, but my thoughts were interrupted by the ringing sound from my phone. I checked and it was a call from Elma's mother.
I felt nervous before picking up the call, "Elma?"
"Yes Mother"
"Your father is now calm; you should come see him today. He is in a good mood," she said, and I bit my lip. What if he slaps me again? I was already scared of that man. "Are you sure?"
"Please double-check." till today, I still dream about that slap; it's like he used metal to slap me.
"You shouldn't be scared of your dad; how about this? Come for dinner with Anthony and the kids."
"I will be expecting you all; don't say no." Then she ended the call, and I clenched my fist. I never expected Elma's life to be this frustrating, or is depressing the right term to use?
Soon we arrived at the office, and I got in with the security guards greeting me as usual, and today the company was filled with workers compared to yesterday.
Then Unise hurried towards me and said, "Good morning, ma'am."
"Why do you look so happy?" It could be seen that she was going to die of excitement soon.
"Let's go to your office; I will let you know," she said, and I nodded before we both took the elevator to the office.
Once we got to the second floor, I could feel everyone's gaze on me. "Is there something on my face? A scar perhaps?" I couldn't understand why they were all looking at me.
"It's because of what happened yesterday," Unise answered, and we finally got to the office. She quickly locked the door before standing next to me.
"Rumor has it that the security guard was fired last night," she started, and I rolled my eyes.
"Will we be gossiping?" Wasn't an office a place to work?
"You always love morning gossip, and I was eager to tell you about Ms. Nel, but it's fine."
"Nel?" Now she piqued my interest, I didn't know much about this Nel, but from her outlook, it could be said that she is a smart person and also a woman of value and high standard.
"Yes, the guard that was fired was saying it's all Ms. Nel's fault. If he knew, he wouldn't have done that to you," she explained, and I was confused. What has Nel got to do with me?
"I don't understand."
"He was fired because he did something to you, so tell me. What did he do to you?"
Then my mind drifted to yesterday. Was he saying he switched off the power because Nel asked him or that Nel was his weakness and that's why he didn't know that the power was off?
Wait, does he have an affair with Nel? I knew something was off with that lady.
"Just get to work and throw these papers," I said before pushing the messed-up drawing papers to her. My time at the office yesterday was well spent ruining drawing papers.
Unise pouted before picking up all the papers on the desk. "You have a meeting with Mr. Wistold and Ms. Nel in an hour; good luck," she said before leaving.
Why was she telling me this only now? And what will I be doing or saying in the meeting?
Then I dialed Elma's phone; it kept ringing, but she didn't pick it up. Then I called again, and she dropped it. Not long after, a message popped up: "Call me one more time, and you will regret it."
This woman was a complete nuisance; how do people even manage to live with her? Now I was judging her out of anger, I breathed heavily before texting Unise.
"Please bring me breakfast and some fast noodles if possible."
It felt good having her run around to bring me breakfast; at least it was a job to occupy her.
One hour later,
I ate breakfast in my office and slept for a while since Nel said I shouldn't interfere in the KC event, so I had no work at the office.
"Ma'am, it's time for the meeting," Unise reminded me, and I sighed. For a moment, I had forgotten about it, but now she brought it up.
"Can I skip?"
"It depends; did you leave the house feeling sick? Then your husband will probably understand that you are sick," she said with a sarcastic tone, and I frowned before walking past her.
Then I turned to her and said, "Lead the way, ma'am."
She chuckled before walking in front, and I followed her. Then we stood in front of Anthony's office, and I tried to gain confidence before knocking at the door.
"Come in," his voice echoed.
I pushed the door and walked in, and then I was shocked to see him sitting on the sofa with Nel, who was changing his bandage.
"Good morning, Elma," Nel said while concentrating on Anthony's hand. She didn't even flinch when I walked in. Wasn't that a little disrespectful to Anthony's wife?
"Take your time; I will sit and wait," I said mockingly before sitting on the chair.
Anthony's gaze was on me. I looked away, and he stood up before walking to his desk. "Thanks, Nel," he said.
"You are always welcome."
"You are always welcome," I mimicked unintentionally.
"Did you say something?" Nel asked, and I shook my head in denial before turning my attention to Anthony.
"I am here for the meeting."
"So am I," Nel said before sitting next to me.
"Before we continue, I would like to see the new designs you have for the KC event," Anthony said, and I got nervous. This was about the design.
"Of course, I have a lot of designs, but this one here stands out." Nel shoved some drawing paper at him, and my mind drifted to the designs I did yesterday; I could show him that. But I had asked Unise to throw it all away.
"Woah" Anthony looked amazed by her design; she had a proud look. Out of curiosity, I strained my neck and took a look at the design.
"Wait what?" This was my design; I drew it yesterday and thought it didn't look good. So I asked Unise to throw it away.
"It's my design," I said angrily, and they both glanced at me.
