A steep silence cracked in the merry atmosphere. A trace of unease flashed like a thin veil on everybody's expressions. Jia didn't understand why.
"Is everything alright?" She didn't like this shift in the atmosphere.
Mingshen, who was deathly bored by that point, regained some of his interest in this dinner. He egged on. "Oh my. What kind of people would suddenly go so mute as if a funeral was going on? Aren't cops such lovely people? Some are quite feisty too~"
Jia didn't appreciate his humorous sentiment.
Bai Caishen smiled. "I guess people didn't expect you to be a cop."
"Is it so shocking?"
Mingshen chuckled and whispered. "It might be for some guilty people."
Chow Mey narrowed her eyes in silence. Bai Caishen then took it upon himself to ease off the heaviness building up. Turn by turn, he introduced everybody to Jia and Mingshen.
