Kapitel 149: Chapter 149: Anna is still avoiding

"Anna, long time no see." Chen Tianwu stood at the door, looking at the chestnut-haired girl in the beret in front of him, his expression somewhat dazed.

He had longed for the chance to see again the girl who had rescued him from the ruins—

Anna Schariac.

Even though a reunion between friends should naturally be joyful, especially with a lifesaving benefactor, Chen Tianwu's current mood was not entirely so. It was more complex.

That dream seemed to have become his nightmare, with Anna's unfamiliar gaze and her resolute figure when she left deeply imprinted in Chen Tianwu's heart, lingering for a long time. The more he thought about it, the clearer the memory became.

"Yeah, long time no see. Come in and have a seat." Anna stepped aside to let Chen Tianwu into the house to chat.

Anna led Chen Tianwu to sit on the sofa, then excused herself and went into the kitchen to make tea.

Chen Tianwu sat on the sofa, fresh flowers in a vase on the coffee table, and a book placed on top of it. He picked it up and glanced through it.

["Seeing him run out, she trembled all over like a leaf, shaking lightly, with spasms on her face; she raised one hand slightly, opened her mouth, but still didn't scream, so she slowly retreated to avoid him, backing into the corner of the wall, staring at him with wide eyes, but still didn't scream, as if unable to due to lack of breath..."]

Hearing movement in the kitchen, Chen Tianwu closed the book carefully and placed it back neatly. When he turned to look, he saw the chestnut-haired girl walking towards him with two cups of hot tea.

"Thank you." Taking the tea, Chen Tianwu took a small sip and thanked her.

"Chen Tianwu, what are you doing here?"

"I came here recently for official business. I happened to see you on the way, and at first, I thought I was mistaken, so I followed to confirm," Chen Tianwu explained. "I hope I'm not disturbing you?"

"No, no, it's just a bit unexpected..." Anna hesitated to respond first.

Since their parting in Manila, this was the first time Anna had seen this young man in front of her again. To be honest, Anna wasn't prepared and didn't know how she should face him.

Was he her savior, or the accomplice in the death of his sister? Or was he the accomplice who turned a blind eye?

Anna didn't understand. This question had been bothering her all along. She tried to find answers, but in the end, all she got was deeper suspicion and more profound confusion. She felt like a drowning person, weakly kicking her feet and reaching out for help, only to hasten her own demise.

In the end, Anna chose to avoid, just like how she used to avoid her responsibilities as a Valkyrie, and how she avoided the reality of accidentally causing the death of the young man's sister.

Years had passed, and Anna had gone from being the vice-captain of the Snow Lotus Squad to being the captain, and she had become an A-rank Valkyrie of Destiny. But everything had changed and yet remained unchanged.

She was still the same Anna, the confused girl who would choose to avoid when faced with difficulties.

"Is that so? That's good then," Chen Tianwu smiled. "At first, I was wondering, after all these years, if you had forgotten about me. I was a bit nervous, but it's great that you still remember me."

"How could I forget..." Anna's voice was weak, lacking in confidence.

"After all, I'm just one of the people you saved... You're a Valkyrie of Destiny, you're here to save all of humanity."

"Anna, you're excellent, and I'm sure you've saved many people." Chen Tianwu looked at Anna with a confident gaze, full of trust and admiration.

Yet, this gaze of trust, especially coming from Chen Tianwu, was sharper and more critical than any harsh words or pointed criticisms.

Perhaps Anna could accept the gratitude and praise from other survivors of the Manila catastrophe, because she had indeed saved them. But when it came to Chen Tianwu...

Anna was conflicted. She saved Chen Tianwu, but she also abandoned her sister. No matter how much she wanted to avoid this topic, it was an undeniable fact.

While Anna was still pondering how to respond, Chen Tianwu spoke again, "Anna, have you found any news about my sister since then?"

Only now did Anna understand what it felt like to have a bullet shot through her forehead two years ago.

She stood there, stunned, her pupils shaking. Instinctively wanting to escape, but her rational mind told her she couldn't. She could only sit awkwardly in front of the young man, feeling uneasy.

"I... "

["I don't know"]—What a light phrase, as long as it was said, it would have infinite power, making the young man in front of her stop asking about this matter. What a wonderful spell.

The words were on the tip of her tongue, but Anna couldn't say them no matter what.

She couldn't do it. She couldn't.

Perhaps she should have chosen to be honest with Chen Tianwu, to tell him directly: "I met your sister, but I abandoned her."

But she avoided it again, her fingers intertwined, unable to speak.

At this moment, Chen Tianwu stood up, seemingly not bothered at all, and smiled, "Actually, I didn't have much hope to begin with."

"I have work to do. This visit was rushed, and I didn't bring any gifts. I'll make sure to bring some next time."

With that, he turned and left, pushing open the door, but then suddenly stopped.

He looked at the slightly awkward girl still sitting on the sofa and said, "Anna, don't blame yourself too much for Xiaowen's matter."

Chen Tianwu left like this, hurriedly, without spending too much time in the living room. It was as if he had never been here before, and only the two cups of tea on the coffee table, still steaming, silently recorded everything.

The chestnut-haired girl in the beret sat on the sofa, her expression dazed, staring blankly at the still-steaming tea on the coffee table.

She pondered the meaning of Chen Tianwu's last words, and her mood became even heavier.

Was Chen Tianwu trying to comfort her? Comfort her for not finding out about Xiaowen's whereabouts?

But... self-blame?

Subconsciously, Anna felt that she had just missed a perfect opportunity to confess, and inexplicably felt a little flustered. A terrifying conjecture suddenly arose in her heart.

Could it be that Chen Tianwu already knew everything, and what he did just now was just a test, testing her attitude?

Anna's hands clenched the hem of her clothes, causing wrinkles in the white fabric.

No, that's impossible.

Only she knew about her and Chen Tianwen's matter. Chen Tianwu couldn't possibly know about it, because she had never talked to anyone about it.

Anna fell into contemplation.
