Dunice's determined gaze shifted to look at Alexander. "No problem, I'll marry you," she said, surprising him with her sudden change of heart. "Ignore the tantrums I threw earlier."
Alexander, still trying to process the sudden shift, couldn't help but ask, "What's with the sudden change of heart?"
"Well, I need money desperately, and you need a wife. I'm as miserable as you said, so let's just get this done. Where's the ring?" Dunice asked.
"It's a ninety-day contract marriage," Alexander explained, his tone resolute.
Dunice's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "A contract marriage?" Dunice nodded, her mouth forming a small "O" of realization.
Alex was a little taken aback but decided to go with the flow. He saw this as a golden opportunity he couldn't afford to pass up. Marrying Dunice for a contract term of ninety days would solve both their immediate problems without attracting the unwanted attention of the press or interfering relatives.
