"Child, I've brought you the leader himself! Don't you want to meet him? Why the long face?" Elder Red's voice echoed in the room, his tongue clicking in disapproval.

His eyes, however, twinkled with mischief.

Atasha wanted to retort, 'But that was several months ago!' Her heart pounded in her chest while a lump of frustration simmered within her.

She would have appreciated Elder Red's gesture of inviting the leader over if he had done so before the chaos of the beastmen migration began.

Now, it seemed pointless to meet the chief and ask for his permission to employ some earth elemental beastmen. Her house outside the territory might already be in ruins, battered by the weather or occupied by other beasts.

Regardless, Atasha forced a smile, her lips twitching at the corners. She was, after all, standing in front of her husband's elders and the clan's people of authority.
