Last night, Mateo felt as if he had taken a stimulant. He kept going on and on, and he didn't know when it would end. But in the end, he was exhausted and fell asleep. Clara touched the mattress next to her. It was cold and her heart felt lost and sour.

He didn't even wake her up before leaving, and she had no idea if he took everything with him. In the next moment, Clara worried about what might happen to him on the road. The sun was already high outside, and Clara rubbed her waist as she got up.

The stone basin was filled with water, and charcoal burned underneath. Clara was touched and scooped some water to clean herself, changed into clean clothes, then went outside to check on the poultry and the vegetables in the fields.
