Kapitel 97: Chapter 97: Storm of Blades and Flames

Lann's steel sword was drawn and shot like a bolt of lightning straight into the heart of a soldier right in front of him. Then, twisting his wrist, he manipulated the blade to open a large hole in the soldier's body. Thereupon, he put his left hand into the hole, making a strange gesture, and his magic value decreased rapidly.

[Aard Sign!]

The enormous impact tore through the body of the Nilfgaardian soldier, bringing with it a great shower of blood and broken flesh, leaving the soldiers in front of Lann unable to open their eyes.

Lann plunged into the momentarily blinded crowd.

[Whirl!]

The steel sword was cutting the lives of the surrounding soldiers like mowing grass, and denser red raindrops were swaying among the crowd.

Adrenaline surged through the body, the sword in his hand became lighter and lighter, and the slashes he swung became heavier and heavier. Screams and muffled sounds kept ringing in his ears.

After a few seconds, Lann stopped his movements, breathing heavily he looked up, and saw the surprised Enns and House.

He had broken through the Nilfgaard infantry formation from behind!

The Nilfgaardians hurriedly retreated and distanced themselves from Lann. Cahir stopped his horse and roared to ask the soldiers around him: "Who is that?!"

"Young Lord?" Enns asked with tears in his eyes as he looked at the man in front of him in disbelief.

Lann raised his head and smiled. "It's been a long time, Enns."

House, who was standing behind Enns, suddenly trembled. He saw Black Wind approach with Swade's body on his back. He could no longer hold back the tears in his eyes.

"Be careful!" Geralt suddenly shouted from afar. Lann heard the warning and instinctively rolled, just as lightning struck the spot where he was standing before. He looked up and saw a short-haired sorceress with lightning bolts in her hands.

Behind her, other sorcerers began to cast spells, creating a ladder in an inaccessible place that led them behind the soldiers.

Lann recognized the leading short-haired sorceress. Fringilla Vigo, a sorceress that Geralt would 'know deeply' in the future.

"Geralt, can you think of a way to persuade the sorceress opposite to surrender?" Lann approached Geralt and spoke in a low voice.

"Although many things have happened during your disappearance this year, making friends with the sorceress across the street is not among them."

"Tsk." Lann twisted his neck. "I'm sorry then."

"Have you done anything you need to apologize for?" Geralt looked at Lann strangely, then his eyes lingered on Lann's lion eyes and the griffin medallion around his neck for a moment. "Now I won't ask you what happened, but... why didn't you use [Quen Sign] when you got into the fight?"

Lann was silent for a moment, then he made a seal with his left hand, a golden light flashed on his body, and then a defensive sphere appeared around him.

While Lann and Geralt communicated in low voices, Cahir behind the Nilfgaardians fired several arrows.

"Reinforcements are coming! We can't let them get away!" Cahir shouted. "He's just another yellow-eyed monster. He's just another person!"

The well-disciplined Nilfgaardian soldiers looked at each other and reluctantly formed their formation again. However, they seemed to be frightened by Lann's previous momentum of killing the entire formation alone, and they hesitated for a while.

Fringilla sneered, waves of magic passed through her hands and the sorcerers behind her began to recite spells, creating a magical barrier that protected them from the attack.

Lann turned around and shouted: "Ace, cover them with a hail of arrows, you have to aim for the head sorceress!"

After giving his orders, Lann advanced towards the front with determination.

As Lann rushed forward, a sorcerer took advantage of the space between the arrows, stepped out of the protective shield, and threw a ball of lightning towards Lann. Lann rolled to avoid it. This scene made the sorcerer's eyes widen.

Lann then executed a series of movements with his sword, killing several Nilfgaardian soldiers, causing the rest of the soldiers to avoid blocking his path.

Now Lann had the path clear in front of him and had already arrived close to the troop of sorcerers. With a swing of his sword, he destroyed the magic shield.

An arrow crossed the battlefield and pierced Fringilla's head.

However, not a drop of blood flowed out. Lann's eyes widened. It was an illusion!

In the next instant a powerful force rushed towards Lann from the side, instantly breaking his protective shield and sending him flying away.

Lann rolled on the ground and avoided the soldiers' surprise attacks, got up, danced with his sword to ward off the enemies, and spat out some blood.

He took out his wineskin from his waist and drank in the middle of the battlefield as if it were nothing, while the soldiers who tried to attack him were killed by his sword, and the Nilfgaardians around him refrained from approaching.

The injuries on the body and the consumed strength begin to recover slowly.

"You can't be so distracted on the battlefield, witcher. Why don't you try to find out where I am?"

Fringilla's voice echoed through the magical waves, although she remained hidden.

Lann wiped his lips, threw the wine bag aside, and said expressionlessly: "Your magic is indeed exquisite, I can't see through your illusion."

"But I have heard a phrase: To defeat magic, you must use magic."

Lann stretched his left hand forward, and his magic value suddenly dropped by half, and surging flames brewed in the palm of his hand.

[Magic Burst - Igni Sign!]

The sign, empowered by a large amount of magical power, was completely different from its original form. The flames engulfed almost all of the Nilfgaardian soldiers, as they uttered heart-rending screams, and now they could only desperately advance towards the direction of Cintra to avoid harm.

Geralt looked at this scene and murmured to himself: "Even for the Griffin School, this is too exaggerated..."

The sorcerers managed to raise a shield but could barely resist the flames, and beyond them, another shield appeared in a previously empty area.

Lann's eyes sparkled. He had found her!

Within that empty shield, the figure of Fringilla slowly appeared, who shouted: "Fire magic? That's not something a witcher could do! Who the hell are you?"

Lann cast the Aard Sign again and again, firing small bursts of telekinetic energy in front of him as he ran, opening a path of fire before him.

"Ace!" Lann shouted, but Ace had already prepared his bow and arrow, waiting for Lann's sword to pierce the protective shield to kill the enemy.

But an arrow crossed the battlefield and hit the protective shield that Lann had created with the Quen Sign, making him retreat and almost falling into his own fire.

Looking to the side, Cahir nimbly dismounted from the horse, dodging a furious arrow from Ace. Then, he reloaded his bow and shot a signal arrow into the sky.

Suddenly, the ground shook slightly, and the sound of horse hooves could be heard faintly in the distance.

Cahir was overjoyed, support is coming!

"Shrink your formation!" Ace shouted sternly. "Lord, retreat quickly!"

The flames on the battlefield began to subside. Fringilla readied her magic again, waiting for Lann to open her shield to attack him forcefully.

The Nilfgaardian cavalry appeared on the horizon, but the Nilfgaardian soldiers realized that the cavalry had abandoned their armor and helmets, as if they were being pursued.

No wonder no one came after so many help signals went off. Turns out they had already been fighting.

Cahir saw that behind the Nilfgaardians were hundreds of soldiers dressed as light cavalry.

Well, that's not entirely accurate. They looked more like sailors than horsemen. They were not good at fighting on horseback, but with their skill with the bow and their numerical superiority, they were harassing the Nilfgaardian heavy cavalry without giving them a chance to use their strength.

Cassir was able to instantly recognize the other party. They were the Skellige!

"Ciri! I'm here to save you... huh? Isn't this Lann!"

Crach, who led the Skellige sailors from the Marnadal Valley, shouted happily. "Lann! I heard rumors that you died in Toussaint, if I go back there, I will throw the messenger to the bottom of the mountains. It's good that you are here, haha!"

Meanwhile, the magical fluctuations in Fringilla's hands became more intense. At that moment, they suddenly exploded, and an orange portal opened behind her.

"Let's go!" She shouted to the few remaining sorcerers in the squad, turning her back on them and entering the portal.

"Backing out!" Cahir also screamed, and all the black armored soldiers tried to break through to escape.

Ace also led the city guards forward in an attempt to form an encirclement offensive with the Skellige sailors.
