Kapitel 139: Chapter 138

Madame Xanadu was wearing a long yellow dress with blue overlays adorned with various thin gold bracelets, rings, necklaces, and large hoop earrings.

She was dressed up to enhance the beauty of her green eyes and long black hair.

There are many things about her that describe her as "gypsy," but what really stands out is her aura, which is a mix of kindness and pure power, soft and aggressive at the same time.

The fact that she managed to teleport to them while Cain was going on a rampage proved that she would be a great help.

"Xanadu, finally some good news!"

Zatanna shouted, and she seemed familiar with her.

"Sorry for the delay, my friend, but fate has its own agenda, and Madame Xanadu can only follow it."

Madame Xanadu spoke kindly.

Zatanna's confidence in victory returned with Xanadu's arrival, and she seemed trustworthy despite her third-person speaking.

Dio doesn't know much about Madame Xanadu.

He remembered her as a supporting character in some storylines but not as the main character.

Dio regretted not having read her comic series, a sentiment he had often had since he was born into this world—regret for not reading more.

The only thing Dio knew about Xanadu was that she had been living since the time of King Arthur and seemed to have had a relationship with Merlin himself.

She possessed a frightening ability to predict the future using tarot cards, a skill that had made her highly sought after in the magical world.

"Here he comes again!"

Starfire warned them and took a defensive stance.

In front of them, Cain bent and jumped toward Dio in his horrifying form, which was three meters tall and had long arms.

"BOOOM!"

The explosion shook the ground, and he rocketed towards Dio.

Dio kneeled down to let him pass over him as he remembered the scene where Mary was cut in half and hadn't returned to the fight yet.

"BOOOOM!"

Cain got out of control in the air and crashed through two buildings behind Dio.

"We need a new plan and a good one!"

Dio shouted to them.

"BOOOM!"

"Great, now he can fly."

Zatanna said this while looking at Cain with two bat wings on his back.

Cain flapped his wings and flew in their direction.

Starfire also took flight, and the two collided in the air.

Strangely, Starfire was the one who crashed and destroyed him with her body.

"He's stronger!"

Starfire warned them while standing up with her fists glowing as she prepared to attack again.

"We have to go."

Madame Xanadu then said something and retrieved something from her dress.

"Go?"

Dio asked her and didn't understand what she said.

"Victory was not to be found here. There's no way to achieve victory here."

Madame Xanadu said this while holding a deck of cards.

She quickly shuffled the cards, then drew the top one to keep the others.

"Boston, please take control of John Constantine's body. Unfortunately, we'll need his help."

Madame Xanadu asked Boston.

"Of course, Madame Xanadu."

Boston was also familiar with her and responded.

He then flew and entered Constantine's body, who was still in the car with smoke coming from his body.

Shortly after, Constantine stepped out of the car and walked slowly toward them.

"I hate getting into this guy's body. It's so uncomfortable."

Boston said this with his voice coming from Constantine's mouth.

"Zatanna, my friends and heroes, please, while we're on our mission, try in every possible way to limit Cainn to this place."

Madame Xanadu requested while looking at Batman, who nodded in agreement.

She then tossed the card she picked earlier. The card stood upright in the air and then expanded, becoming quite visible to everyone.

The card depicts a chariot, with a man on top of a chariot being pulled by two winged lions.

It is a very realistic card to the point of appearing alive.

A natural-born seer was required to use tarot cards, which were often used by sorcerers to tell the future.

However, the results of a projection made by a natural-born seer are much more accurate.

"Let's go, Boston and Kírix."

"Why me? Zatanna was definitely a better choice for the mission, whatever it is. I can't help but be curious about your choice."

She had been too nice to Dio for someone she had just met, but he didn't seriously suspect her.

Dio knew she and Zatanna were friends, but being an apprentice to her friend shouldn't carry that much weight.

"That's where you're wrong. It's true, Zatanna has more experience and power than you, but you have your father's blood running through your veins, and we urgently need that where we're going."

Dio knew there was more to it, but he also knew she wouldn't hurt him, and now was not the time to dwell on it.

"Let's go then."

Dio gave his response.

Madame Xanadu stood in front of the giant card and raised her hand.

A doorknob appeared on the card; she grabbed it, turned it, and then pulled. The card transformed into a dimensional door.

There's only a strong light hiding our destination inside the card.

Madame Xanadu was the first to enter, followed by Constantine.

"Be careful,"

Raven said to him before Dio entered.

The others have already moved to help deal with Cain, and only she stayed behind.

"You too,"

Dio replied, and then he entered the door.

As Dio passed through the portal, he found himself experiencing something he had never felt before—an unparalleled sensation of literally stepping on nothing.

It wasn't that everything was black, but that it wasn't any color at all.

That's why there was no ground, yet he was stepping on something, which was really difficult to process.

"Haha, you get used to it after a while."

Madame Xanadu laughed while observing his cautious movements with each step.

Dio was walking at a slow pace between her and Constantine.

"Where are we?"

Dio asked her.

"I call it the Road of Nothing."

Constantine/Boston replied.

"I'll need more details, friend."

"The Road of Nothing is what lies between the world of the living and the afterlife."

Madame Xanadu explained more clearly.

"Are we in purgatory?"

Dio asked, still not fully understanding.

"That's not entirely wrong. You know that the world of the living and the world of the dead are different realities or realms. They occupy the same 'space' but don't touch to avoid chaos and thus maintain balance. Between these two realities, which is this space, lies the Road of Nothing. Normally, magicians or any being with power or ability skips this road to reach the heavens or hells. That's why it's rarely used, except by a certain person."

"Who?"

"Death!"

Dio couldn't help but look around to expect his luck and find Death staring at him from behind.

"Don't worry; Lady Death is too kind. She doesn't mind us using her favorite route. In fact, if she finds us, she might even help us."

Madame Xanadu tried to reassure him.

She might be right.

The version of Death in certain DC comics was quite amiable.

Fortunately, Dio was not in the Marvel universe; Death was a crazy, manipulative witch.

"Do you want to bring Andrew back to life?"

Dio no longer saw any reason for them to be walking towards the world of the dead.

"No."

"What are we going to do then?"

"Bring Andrew back to the world of the living."

'Is this woman messing with me?'

'No, wait. She said to bring him back to the world of the living, not back to life. That means...'

"Andrew is still alive?"

"Of course!"

Madame Xanadu confirmed.

"I need more explanations."

Dio really didn't like asking so many questions, but Madame Xanadu made him feel comfortable enough to do so.

"Wait"

Constantine stopped walking, and they also stopped.

"He's waking up."

Boston warned and left Constantine's body, which fell to his knees.

"Cough! Cough! Cough!"

Constantine began to cough and then lifted his head while looking at the three of us with veins in front of him.

"Bloody hell, did we die?"

"No, but our friends will if you don't get up and start walking."

That was his answer.

"I figured as much. I didn't wake up surrounded by demons fighting over who gets the rights to my soul."

Constantine said this and stood up.

"That's the only thing many would fight to get their hands on—your soul."

"Madame Xanadu, it's been a while. Fancy a drink after we save the world?"

"I'd rather see the Witch Hunt again."

Madame Xanadu replied while turning around and continuing to walk, leaving Constantine alone while lighting a cigarette.

Madame Xanadu had gained some trust with Dio now.

Given Constantine's reputation in the magical world, Dio doubts many people would accept such a request from him.

Dio knew very well that Zatanna only agreed because, at the time, he wasn't what he is today.

"Not that I don't enjoy surprise trips, but why are we here, and can't we go faster?"

Constantine asked impatiently.

"Why?"

Dio asked with curiosity.

"Constantine was one of the few who had the nerve to court Death. It didn't end well since this idiot was drunk."

'What!?'

"You know, Constantine, I know you're a jerk and a scoundrel, but you're definitely a brave jerk scoundrel."

Dio said finally.

Death is one of the Endless beings with unimaginable power, second only to the first two Demiurgic Archangels and the Creator himself.

So it takes a lot of courage to date such a being, even when they're drunk.

"All Constantine has is the courage of jerks."

Boston joked.

"Madame Xanadu was about to explain why we're here and what we're going to do."

Dio went back to what's important.

Madame Xanadu beside him nodded.

"Well, this is ancient history. It all started when Cain got tired of living..."
