Kapitel 1: Scarlet Battlefield

A battlefield stretched out beneath the ominous, blood-red sky, a vast expanse of scorched earth and jagged rocks bearing the scars of countless battles. The ground, once verdant and teeming with life, was now a desolate wasteland, devoid of vegetation and hope. The air was thick with the scent of burnt earth and the metallic tang of blood, giving off a sense of despair.

Craters pockmarked the ground, evidence of powerful magical clashes that had left the terrain permanently scarred. Smoldering embers flickered sporadically, remnants of fires that had long since consumed everything in their path. Broken weapons, shattered armor, and the remnants of fallen warriors lay strewn across the battlefield.

The once-great banners of noble houses, now weathered and torn, hung limply from makeshift poles, their colors muted and faded by time and the elements. The wind whispered through the tattered remnants, carrying with it the echoes of battles long past. Two figures emerged as the last remnants of a once-vibrant world. One was a man with fiery red hair, piercing green eyes, and black wings unfurled from his back. The other was me, a knight adorned in dark white armor with grey hair. Seraph, the Weapon Godking, was my name. The red-haired figure before me, Kaelthar the Vengeful Prisoner, was the one to blame for all this, unleashing swirling flames with a malevolent flick of his hands.

The flames rushed towards me, threatening to engulf everything in their path. Instinctively, I raised my sword, its blade shimmering with ancient enchantments, deflecting the fiery onslaught. I countered swiftly, my voice echoing with incantations as I summoned gusts of wind that swirled around me. With a fluid motion, I directed the winds to form a protective barrier, deflecting Kaelthar's magical assault. Seizing the moment, I lunged forward, my sword slashing through the air in precise arcs, each stroke a testament to centuries-old swordsmanship techniques. But Kaelthar was undeterred. With a swift motion, he conjured torrents of elemental fury – fire and lightning crackled around him, forming a shield that sizzled with energy.

I adapted. I threw my weapon in the air, transforming it into a cascade of daggers that filled the air like deadly rain. He attempted to deflect my strikes with his blade, but I was relentless, my blades dancing in the air with precision. In the chaos of battle, Kaelthar summoned a gust of wind blades, a desperate attempt to deflect my strikes. Some of them got past my rain of daggers so I adapted once again, my weapon turning into a pair of curved long blades which I used to deflect his attacks.

His enjoyment was noticeable as he conjured illusions, mirrors of himself that tried to confuse my senses. I gritted my teeth as I turned my weapon into a spear. As if having a mind of its own, it rushed through the illusions, destroying each one of them, finding the real Kaelthar amidst the mirage. The clash of magic and steel resounded through the desolate landscape. After a particularly intense exchange, he stepped back.

Kaelthar spoke first, his voice tinged with admiration, "You're quite the formidable opponent. Your prowess with weapons is unmatched." Catching my breath, I remained silent for a moment before responding. "Actions speak louder than words," I muttered, my eyes never leaving him. He frowned and said, "Why are you still fighting anyway? Everything you were fighting for is gone!"

I controlled the spear back into my hand, shifting it back into a double-edged sword. He was right; I had lost everything in this war, if it could be called that. After all, we were driven to extinction, and I was the last one left standing from what I could sense. Yet I kept on fighting.

"Well, I suppose you were always like this, brother," he said, his voice full of venom. "Enough! We are no longer brothers," I said, finally getting into a stance. He looked at me with an unreadable expression. With a sigh, he lifted up his blade. He lifted the other hand and snapped his fingers; the very fabric of the battlefield seemed to tremble. In response, five colossal tornadoes of fire roared to life, their spiraling flames reaching toward the ominous sky. Simultaneously, eight immense lightning beasts crackled into existence, their electric forms illuminating the darkened landscape.

At the same moment, I let loose a vivid green aura. My gaze was full of determination, and my war cry resonated through the desolate terrain as I released all my energy. Dark wings shot out from my back, appearing just like Kaelthar's, and I flew towards him with tremendous speed. He responded to my attack with equal force, his wings launching him ahead, his lightning beasts and fire tornadoes following him closely.

And our blades met.

________

I slowly opened my eyes, feeling the cool touch of raindrops against my face. Blinking away the haze of unconsciousness, I tried to push myself up, but a scorching pain shot through my back. As I winced, I glanced back, realizing that only one wing remained, the other torn and tattered.

"You're finally awake," I froze, then looked over to the side and saw Kaelthar, his body battered and broken, both his wings long gone, lying nearby. I tried to sit up, but the pain intensified, and I slumped back to the ground, defeated.

Kaelthar sighed, his gaze distant. "Our bodies are beyond repair," he said, his voice a mere whisper. We sat in silence. Finally, I mustered the strength to ask, "Was it all worth it?"

A sad smile tugged at Kaelthar's lips, though it quickly turned into a fit of coughing, blood staining his lips. Despite his condition, he managed to respond, "It was."

We dropped into silence once more, the rain falling around us like tears from the heavens. The minutes stretched into what felt like hours before I mustered the courage to speak again. "I forgive you," I said, my voice barely audible.

Kaelthar's eyes widened in surprise, and he was momentarily speechless. After a moment, he managed a weak smile, his expression one of disbelief. We sat in silence again, the words hanging between us.

Then, Kaelthar spoke, his voice barely a whisper, "I regret not having remained close to you... with everything I have done, that's the only thing I regret." He coughed, blood falling to the ground before him. Raising his blade weakly, he continued, "I could have killed you while you were asleep. I had enough time to do it, yet I couldn't... We're both going to die anyway, so why not just talk it out?"

I sighed, a bitter smile on my lips. "I guess you're still indecisive as always," I replied, my voice laced with weary acceptance.

"And you're as stubborn as always," he said, his lips twitching into a smile despite the pain.

The battlefield echoed with our weak laughter, a fragile moment of connection amidst the ruins of our conflict. Slowly, the darkness closed in, and we both began to lose consciousness, both of us knowing that death would soon welcome us.

As I closed my eyes, my final thought was a question: where had it all gone wrong? Why did things go wrong?

Ah...I know why. It was because of our arrogance, and our unyielding pride that drove us to destroy everything around us, including each other.

"AH....before I forget, I whooped your ass," I heard Kaelthar say through his weak laughter.

I chuckled softly, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. Despite everything, it felt good to be able to share a moment of levity with my old enemy. "You may have whooped it in this battle, but I'll get you back by tearing it in the next life," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Kaelthar chuckled weakly in response before falling silent.

The rain continued to fall around us as we drifted into oblivion.
