Kapitel 464: Troublesome Goddess (II)

"Again?!"

Ishtar's face instantly showed panic as she saw all of her attacks get swallowed by black holes.

Pitifully, before she could even drive Maanna to escape, six pitch-black holes had already surrounded her.

*BOOM!*

Amidst the neat and consistent bombardment, Ishtar fell to the ground like a bird stripped of its colorful feathers, smoke billowing from her body.

Her once radiant, silky black hair turned into a tangled mess, resembling a bird's nest, while her eyes spun with spiraling patterns like mosquito coils as she lay unconscious on the ground.

It was evident she had indeed tried to attack Arkhan with the intention to kill, otherwise, she wouldn't have ended up in such a pitiful state.

"Guhahaha, Ishtar, are you planning to laugh this king to death to take possession of my treasury?!"

Gilgamesh laughed heartily, clutching his stomach, tears even forming at the corners of his eyes.

"Once could be forgiven, but repeat the same mistake a second time without learning? Is your walnut-sized brain filled only with gems? Guhahaha—!"

After wiping the tears from his eyes, Gilgamesh turned to Siduri.

"Siduri, make a note in the palace log later which said—due to the foolishness of Goddess Ishtar, the king almost laughed until his abs tore."

"Hahh... Your Majesty, please be serious. Goddess Ishtar is still the goddess of Uruk. It's disrespectful to treat her this way..." Siduri sighed helplessly.

"That's right!"

Ishtar, lying on the ground pretending to be dead, suddenly lifted her head.

"I've done so much for Uruk. You can't just strip me of my status so casually. And more importantly, you can't stop the people from offering me something!"

Thinking about offerings at a time like this, this shameless goddess was truly beyond redemption.

And so, to prevent Gilgamesh from pushing the situation into even more unpredictable situations, Arkhan quickly spoke up.

"Please rest assured, Goddess Ishtar, we have no intention of replacing you. Whenever it may be, you will always remain the guardian god of this city."

"Are you serious?" Ishtar looked at him skeptically. "What about my offerings?"

With a slight twitch of his lips, Arkhan nodded.

"Of course, they will always belong to you."

Upon hearing his answer, Ishtar immediately stood up from the ground. As a faint light flashed, she quickly regained her former sacred and noble celestial appearance, the golden color in her eyes gradually fading away.

"Ahem, well, considering you, a mortal, are so interesting, this goddess will overlook your offense earlier."

After saying that, Ishtar rubbed her hands together, her big eyes staring unwaveringly at Arkhan.

"So, where are my offerings? Those shiny, lovely, and beautiful gemstones?"

Arkhan glanced at Gilgamesh on the throne, seeing him nod subtly in his direction, Arkhan turned back to Ishtar.

"Your offerings are still here, and so are the gemstones."

Arkhan paused for a moment as he saw the joy on Ishtar's face, then continued.

"But these things can't be given to you temporarily."

"Hey, mortal, just because I forgave you earlier doesn't mean you can test my patience. The time of a goddess is precious. Be smart and hand over the gemstones already!" Ishtar stared at him with a menacing look.

Just because she had a slight disadvantage earlier didn't mean she had lost. If she got serious, even without Gugalanna's (Bull of Heaven) help, destroying Uruk would be a piece of cake.

"My goodness, do you really want to know the truth?" Arkhan sighed.

"What do you mean?" Ishtar furrowed her brows in confusion.

Arkhan pointed at the sapphire that Gilgamesh had thrown on the ground earlier.

"This is the offering from the people of Uruk for you."

"WHAT—?!" Ishtar's voice instantly rose several decibels.

She flashed in front of Arkhan, grabbing his shoulder with a bewildered expression on her delicate face.

"Are you kidding me?! Why are my offerings only a damn gem? Last month, there was a whole box full!"

In the next moment, she suddenly looked enlightened.

"I see, Gilgamesh must have snatched my offerings. Hey, you, Goldy over there, embezzling this goddess's treasures is a serious crime. You'd better hand over the remaining gemstones before I get angry, or I'll turn this place into ruins!"

"Ha! Don't make me laugh, you disgraceful goddess!" Gilgamesh sneered mercilessly. "I possess all the treasures in the world! Your precious gemstones? Just rocks in my treasury. Why would I want them?"

"It can't be..."

Ishtar couldn't believe the truth, taking a few steps back, then turning her gaze to the chief priestess.

"Siduri, tell me, are my offerings only this gem?"

Upon hearing Ishtar's pitiful question, Siduri sighed and bowed slightly.

"Goddess Ishtar, due to the panic caused by your actions over the past month, there are now very few people willing to come and make offerings to you."

What she spoke was the truth.

There were no longer any followers of Ishtar in Uruk. Even those who came to make offerings secretly hoped something like, 'I hope Goddess Ishtar won't harass us again'.

"The people have had enough, Ishtar."

Gilgamesh stood up, arms crossed, looking down at Ishtar.

"Because of your willfulness and stubbornness, the people of Uruk no longer want to tolerate you. It's not you abandoning the people, it's the people abandoning you!"

"I..." Ishtar's gaze flickered slightly.

If it were the old her, she might have summoned Gugalanna to trample Uruk in rage. But now, influenced by the personality of her human body, besides feeling ashamed and angry, she felt more guilty and embarrassed.

"Enough, I'm so sick of this! Do whatever you want, I'm done with Uruk from now on!" Ishtar stomped her foot in frustration, grabbing Maanna, ready to flee.

"Please wait, Goddess Ishtar."

Arkhan reached out and firmly held onto Maanna with a gentle smile on his face.

"Actually, everything can still be fixed. As long as you start doing what a goddess should do from now on, the people will naturally regain their trust and faith in you, and the offerings and such will return to their previous standards too."

"Tch, they've already abandoned me anyway, why should I bother with them?" Ishtar muttered under her breath, but her eyes, darting back and forth, betrayed her true feelings.

"If you don't want to handle it personally, that's fine..."

Arkhan spoke with an unwavering smile as he saw her reaction.

"Just leave it to me, I'll take care of sorting all this out for you."
