Seraphina could not comprehend why extraordinary beings… would target mortals. 

What was the purpose of designing such a thing? If the intention was to destroy the Lower District from the beginning, why build it at all?

She was already entangled by this question, unable to find an answer… and handicapped by it.

Seraphina had encountered those who used innocents as leverage before, the most unscrupulous and despicable of scoundrels. But they had all underestimated her speed and strength. 

Moreover, none had ever been as deranged as these, ready to bury an entire district's population in a bottomless mine at any moment!

She had even exerted a fraction of her true power to intimidate them. Yet, no matter how ferocious or formidable she appeared, as long as her opponents remained calm and realized she would never allow any innocents to be harmed, they would not fall into a disadvantage.
