Twenty minutes later, Raven sat beside, still munching away.
Max had finished his meal, but Raven's tiny frame seemed to have an insatiable appetite, not because she could eat much, but because she hadn't had her fill before.
As Raven finally finished eating, Max poured her a glass of water.
Taking a few sips, Raven sets the cup down and looks at Max expectantly.
"Follow me later," Max says.
Raven blinks, surprised. "You want to adopt me? But I'm... different."
"Because of your ability?" Max smiles and snaps his fingers. Suddenly, a door materializes in front of Raven, widening her eyes.
"Step inside and take a look," Max urges.
Boldly, Raven opens the door, revealing a strangely familiar yet altered space. She steps in, glancing back and forth between the door's interior and exterior.
She gets it.
Why isn't he afraid of her? Because he's just like her.
"In this world, there are many mutants with unique abilities like yours. Some look different from ordinary folks, but they possess talents beyond imagination. That's your special allure," Max explains. "I'm creating a sanctuary for mutants like you. A place where you can live without fear of judgment, surrounded by others who understand."
Listening intently, Raven begins to envision the possibilities. What will this place be like? Will it be a haven?
"Boss!" Raven suddenly calls out to Max.
Max chuckles softly. "That sounds a bit odd. You don't have to call me that. Tomorrow, I'm meeting someone. If all goes well, we might bring him home. And then, perhaps I'll find you a foster mother."
Max grins mischievously.
...
The following morning, Max took Raven out with him.
Raven resumed her womanly appearance as she climbed into the car alongside Max.
Howard Stark.
A renowned scientist, wealthy tycoon, and renowned playboy—his future son, Tony Shi Stark, would follow in his footsteps.
As a man of means, Howard Stark possessed a few extravagant properties. Max was headed to one of Howard's estates, rumored to have been acquired specifically for discreet encounters. Not every woman would simply leave after a friendly bout, hence the need for a secretive rendezvous!
"You'll accompany me into a different realm. I'll incapacitate him and bring him here. Then, you'll assume his identity and inform his butler, JARVIS, that I'll be away for a few days. I'll be waiting for you here," Max explained to Raven.
Raven nodded in understanding.
"Let's go."
Exiting the car, Max and Raven entered the dimensional space.
Raven observed the surroundings with curiosity as they swiftly located the inebriated Howard Stark, still sound asleep in a nearby room.
"You remember his appearance?" Max inquired.
Without hesitation, Raven transformed into Howard.
"Excellent."
Max grinned as he opened the door and carried the unconscious Howard into the alternate realm. Simultaneously, Raven, now assuming Howard's form, stepped out.
"Sir, you're up early today," J.A.R.V.I.S. remarked, taken aback to see Howard emerge so promptly and neatly dressed.
"Yes, I have some business to attend to for a few days. Don't bother contacting me unless it's urgent," Raven replied smoothly.
"Do you need me to help you prepare the car or the ticket?" J.A.R.V.I.S asked, without any doubts, assuming it was a matter of deciding which woman to spend time with.
"No need," Raven replied, shaking her head as she walked out.
Transforming into someone else's appearance was second nature to Raven, and she didn't feel nervous at all. However, as she emerged this time, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief, worried that it might affect Max's plans.
Fortunately, everything went smoothly.
Not long after leaving the villa, Raven spotted Max's car and headed straight for it.
"Good job!" Max smiled, ruffling Raven's hair and casting a glance at Howard, who was lying in the backseat.
"Thanks!" Raven beamed, feeling ecstatic to receive praise and enjoy the warmth of physical contact.
Ahead, a portal materialized on the road.
Max drove straight into the portal, heading back to Alaska.
About an hour into the drive, Max heard a groan from behind. Turning to look, he saw Howard stirring awake.
Rubbing his eyes, Howard looked around in confusion before settling his gaze on Max and Raven. "Where are we? Are you taking me to a party?"
"Unfortunately, it's not a party," Max replied with a smirk.
Howard eyed Max suspiciously. "So, this is kidnapping?"
"Bingo!"
"I'm not surprised you managed to snatch me away. I did have quite a bit to drink last night. But how did you get me out of the house? J.A.R.V.I.S. didn't see you, so you shouldn't have been able to take me like this."
"J.A.R.V.I.S. didn't see us at all," Max explained.
"Impossible. How did you get me out then?"
"You came out on your own!" Max said cryptically, casting a meaningful glance at Raven, who knew she had to transform into Howard next.
