Kapitel 63: A new opponent

CRRK

RATTLE

It was as if an earthquake hit as the bones littering the pit spontaneously started shaking.

Different types of bones that compose the human body started pulsating toward each other before conjoining and creating a human skeleton.

Another hundred or so skeletons rose from the dead.

This new batch was different from the others before it as each and every one of them was armed with a sharpened femur bone and a shield made with ribcages.

'It is learning huh? It is starting to learn and prioritize quality over quantity since it didn't work against me.

But they are still canon fodder but I commend the effort.'

Almost habitually, Aster sent more wind slashes towards the skeletons.

'It's kind of getting repetitive now but I guess it's for the best. Can't afford to delay unnecessarily.'

Before it could hit any of them though, a skeleton wall rose from the ground and blocked it.

The next moment, a creepy feeling radiated from the undead force, making Aster chuckle in response.

'I have faced worse than this, you know?'

The relentless undead was not done. A second type of aura of burst from them without any unnecessary pause which surprised Aster a little bit.

'Huh? Those two skills can be used simultaneously?'

The ravenous decay of death shrouded the skeleton like a second skin while projecting an aura that no living being should be exposed to.

'Damn, so that was the skill [Wicked existence] and [Rotten Aura] huh? Didn't think they would be this beast of a combo.

[Wicked existence] as it sounds, makes the said undead radiate unholy presence. The unholy presence induces fear and distress in the heart of the victim unless they have a stronger aura.

Aster was unaffected by this skill but the next one proved to be more troublesome.

[Rotten aura] creates a thin layer of decay around the undead and it increases as the skill increases in level, the aura of decay gets enhanced both in potency and range. It inflicts the status effect decay on physical contact.

Which means I can't touch it, directly at least.

The armed skeleton force charged, but seemed to have become a little more organized to him. The lesser number of troops might have given that impression.

Aster quickly scanned the ground and picked up a femur bone to use as a weapon.

'Using a bone weapon against an opponent with bone manipulation isn't the best strategy but whatever.'

"I identified what I need to be the most careful about. As long as I can properly avoid that potential nuke, I will be fine."

CRACK

He had used his movement speed-boosting skills but he tried to be as quiet as possible so there were no loud sonic booms and his speed was reduced considerably.

He charged against upcoming skeletons and once he got close to the first one, he threw the bone in his hand like a javelin with all of his might

FWOOSH

BREAK

CRACK

The bone cut through the air and broke through one skeleton's skull, and then another and again before stopping mid-air, right in front of the fourth skeleton.

After having been in contact with [Rotten aura], the entirety of the femur had turned sickly brown and black.

Without stopping, Aster continued to dash in the direction of the lich.

In order to avoid being touched by the rotten aura, he picked up a few broken bones from the ground and threw them at the nearest skeletons.

The lich could control bones with well above decent mastery but the size of the bones and the speed it was thrown at was more than enough for it to have difficulty controlling it precisely.

Sometimes, it did take control of a few projectiles but it couldn't stop its momentum right away so a quite few skeletons fell.

The lich stopped trying to save its minions and focused on the offensive, as offensive it can be with its trump card in the making.

Aster felt the ground beneath him shift and skeletal arms rose from the deep, trying to grasp a hold on him and stop his further advances.

Unfortunately for it, Aster simply had too much dexterity and perception for it to happen.

As soon as he detected it forming in the ground, with his excellent reflexes provided by his dexterity, he immediately dodged much to the lich's frustration.

'Can't hold me with just that.'

Over 75% of the distance between him and the lich was crossed within half a minute.

Over half of the skeletal army was destroyed in that period.

Now with a clear path pointing towards it, Aster sped up and appeared in front of the lich.

He jumped up and as he descended on the lich, he prepared an skill.

'Can't let you use that!'

[[Negative fireball] has been activated]

A small ghastly fireball the size of a tennis ball manifested in his right hand and he pushed it forward.

CREAK

The fireball burned through the dirty rag but ended up going through it.

Aster had miscalculated. A skeleton had a smaller 'hitbox' than what it looked like.

His hand ended up going between the ribs of the monster.

Before he even pulled his hand out, the ribs shifted, and let his hand free.

'It can use bone manipulation itself too?'

In front of his eyes, the lich sank into the hill of bones like it was dropping into a pool and disappeared.

Well disappeared to the eye but not his mana detection radar.

'There!'

In his hurry, he didn't realize the remaining skeletons were scattered and were digging up the bones frantically.

He kicked the ground and sent bones flying everywhere while he himself was propelled forward.

He didn't go far as there wasn't a solid footing but it was enough. He had caught up on the lich.

Aster thrust his left hand forward and into the ground where he used another small negative fireball.

BOOM

An explosion occurred but the lich somehow escaped.

The explosion unearthed what was buried under bones and sent it flying.

If Aster wasn't wrong, he saw a particular skull soaring in the sky.

A big canine's skull. That's what it was.

Its long sharp fangs made it the perfect tool to rip meat apart. It had two eyesockets, two front even sharper fangs, and a long snout. It had cracks all over it yet it held on, a proof of its durability.

And it was caught by the lich whose rags had been left abandoned somewhere beneath bones.

An evil smile flashed on its face, Aster got that feeling.

The green flames in its eyes soared and burned brighter as fragments of bones started floating.

It rattled its bones to symbolize its happiness as the bones were constructed into something monstrous.

2-and-a-half-meter tall frame, hunched back, and incredibly sharp claws.

'Hey, isn't that-'

The skull finally took its place like a crown at last. It popped into place and the species of the new undead was revealed.

'A werewolf?'

Wicked green flames ignited in its long-dead eyes.

As if announcing its revival, it arched its back and faced the sky.

It spread its arms and let out the most bone-chilling sound Aster had ever heard.

"AWOOOOOO!"
