Kapitel 97: Winston Arrives

** This paragraph shall stand in tribute to those who had to wait the two months for me to deal with real real-world stuff. I can't thank you all enough for your support and continued interest in this old man's hobby. I will try for a release every two days and once I get a firm handle on everything in my new job and residence we will see about speeding that up. Please continue with the comments and questions that keep me thinking and if you haven't yet, I would love a review to get more readers interested. Thank you all again!!! **

-(Chapter Begin.)-

Pam followed Logan as he left the yard through the fence, pushing the barrel that had served as the dog's shelter. After he had gotten through the chain link he stopped and put the barrel down, then reached back and held the fence for Pam to come through.

Pam was slightly taken back at the thoughtfulness that Logan showed her. (It feels so unnatural when he is this caring.) Pam tells herself, but then she shakes that thought away.

As the two walked toward the two dogs that were still sitting and looking around, they were approached by one of their least favorite people. "I have to say, just seeing you in such revealing clothes makes this whole drive to come help worth it." Winston says, staring at Pam's outfit without hiding his lust.

Pam looked at him with irritation, "Too bad you weren't here earlier, I would have liked to see you run when these two Pit Bull's surprised us coming through the fence."

Winston looked at the two dogs that were staring at Logan as they patiently sat waiting for a signal to release them from his last command. "You aren't wrong in calling them Pit Bulls, but they appear to be more accurately called American Staffordshire Terriers. Many people shove multiple breeds together and just call them Pit Bulls."

Winston snaps his finger at the male to get his attention before approaching him, so he isn't seen as a threat. Moving in slow, practiced movements, Winston does a quick inspection and frowns. "This poor guy has some very weirdly developed muscles like he had something extremely heavy around his neck. Probably made to work out by pulling things with his neck alone instead of a good chest harness."

Logan and Pam both had surprised looks on their faces. "He had a very thick chain wrapped tightly around his neck; it looked like it was impairing his breathing. I took it off him before going and talking with the owner next door."

Winston next walked over to the female and looked her over the same as he did the male. "We should call the cops on them; this is clearly animal abuse."

"We thought about it but decided to talk with the owner first and luckily, she agreed that she couldn't care for them properly any longer, so she entrusted them to us. She also agreed that she won't own any animals in the future, and I plan to make sure she sticks with that agreement." Logan walked to the trash pile and found some wire he could use to fix the chain link fence, expecting the conversation to be over.

Surprisingly, Winston was insistent on keeping the conversation going. "What do you have planned for them now, are either of you going to keep them?"

As Logan squatted down to begin his work on repairing the fence. "I really hadn't thought that far ahead, I am not sure I should keep them as I don't have a permanent place for them at the moment. A friend runs a scrap yard and has a few dogs, he takes very good care of them but adding these two may disrupt their pack, especially with one being a female."

"What about a no-kill shelter?" Pam suggested.

"Even a no-kill shelter couldn't guarantee that they would stay together. Ho... How about you leave them with me, I have a friend who runs a rescue. We usually go to the animal shelters and adopt the dogs that are in danger every couple of weeks."

This is very different than the image of Winston that Logan had built up in his head due to the impression he had so far from his actions. Just to be sure Logan did a quick dip into his head to make sure he wasn't planning anything bad for the dogs. Sure enough, Marcus had a huge soft spot for dogs, most specifically the Bully breeds. Something about his family owning a Saint Bernard when he was young, it was named after his dad's favorite classical music pianist. Marcus favored the Bully breed despite that.

Logan paused what he was doing and looked at Winston. "If you can give me the name of the Rescue and agree to let me come check up on them a time or two, I would be willing to let them go with you. But if it's some Rescue that has ulterior motives, then I will tear it down with you in the middle of it. Agreed?"

For the first time, Pam saw a smile on Winston's face that didn't look slimy. "I am glad to hear you are so protective over them even though you just met them. If you weren't trying to steal the only flower at work I like looking at I could almost get along with you."

"This flower as you call me has thorns and decides things on her own." Pam said with some heat in her tone.

"Sure thing babe, where is the water source so I can wash these two? I need to get them clean enough to not ruin the inside of my car when I drop them off. I have a date with a girl fresh off her 18th birthday party and loose morals later tonight."

Logan just shook his head and pointed him in the right direction and did a quick imprint on the dogs to follow Winston and obey him within reason.

After they left Pam asked Logan. "You sure that's a good idea? Winston doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that he is a responsible pet owner."

"Yeah, I am sure. I took a quick peek into his head and in this one area I will trust him." Logan again grabbed the barrel that once served as a doghouse. "Let's throw this away, as it isn't needed any longer. Then we can finish taking down the fence and finish up the project."

-(Scene Shift)-

Back at the Wayne Botanical Center, a young man with a purple Mohawk is walking through the halls with a troubled look on his face. He has been facing a moral dilemma for the last couple of weeks and decided to follow the advice his religious text provided.

Walking to a door with the words Doctor Eric Grimley painted on it, Darshan reached his arm out to knock. He lightly tapped 3 times on the door with his knuckle and called out "Dr Grimley?" There was no response, so Darshan knocked again after looking up and down the hallway. He heard a muffled thump and was afraid that the Dr had fallen out of his wheelchair, so he turned the knob and started to pull the door open.

It felt weird to pull the door open but because of Dr Grimley was confined to a wheelchair, it was necessary. Suddenly the door was flung open with a lot of force, like something very big or fast had hit it.

The door knocked Darsham into the opposite wall as something big rushed out of the office and past him too fast for him to make out as he was stunned by the impact of his head on the wall. Darsham fell forward and as the fog started to clear from his mind, he looked into the office and saw shattered glass and a room that looked like it had been through a tornado or two bored cats.

Darsham slowly stood up and looked around, noticing that there was nothing on the large desk, nor was there anything on the shelves that lined the room. Everything had been scattered on the floor of the office. In the middle of all this was what appeared to be a mummy dressed in the clothes he had last seen Dr. Grimley wearing. The skin looked dry and brittle like it had no moisture remaining in the body.

Darshan quickly grabbed the phone on the floor and called security in a panic.
