Well a bit of time has happened since my discovery of the medieval-fantasy Walmart. 2 months to be precise and pretty proud of my progress. From my skyrocketing strength and the filling of my system bank of knowledge I'm kinda ready for a little adventuring . . . a small one still but it counts as adventuring. I can't vaporize the moon with my beams but I do have the abilities of shooting some.
Two months have etched their mark upon me, and the transformation has been both physical and spiritual. The training grounds have become a canvas for my growth, where the clash of steel, the hum of spells, and the whispers of the divine have shaped me into something more. My muscles have hardened, my reflexes have quickened, and the aura that envelops me crackles with newfound intensity.
In the realm of physical prowess, my body has transformed. Muscles have rippled and coiled beneath my skin, while my movements have grown fluid and controlled. Each clash of swords, each arrow loosed, and each shield bash has become an opportunity to refine my combat skills. The oversized weapon that once felt unwieldy in my hands now moves with a sense of familiarity, as though it's an extension of my very being.
Within the magical realms, my strides have been equally tangible. The aura manipulation techniques I've delved into have allowed me to harness my energy with newfound efficiency. The air around me dances with an almost imperceptible shimmer, evidence of my control over this ethereal force. My strikes resonate with an inner power, each blow guided by a deeper connection to the world around me.
The arcane threads of mana spells have woven intricate patterns in my mind. I can conjure flames that dance like forgotten memories and shape the elements to my will. Spells that once tested my limits are now woven into the fabric of my being, ready to be summoned at a moment's notice. The magic flows through me like a river, its currents no longer unfamiliar.
And then there is divine magic, a realm that opened my senses to something beyond myself. With reverence and awe, I embrace the divine energy coursing through my veins. A gentle touch becomes a balm, minor wounds healing beneath my fingertips. Radiant bursts emanate from my core, driving back the shadows that seek to encroach. My aura itself is adorned with a soft, golden light, a testament to the divine force that now guides my steps.
Yet, it's not just the training that has forged me; it's the people I've encountered along the way. Sofia, a mage of mysterious origin, became my mentor in the arcane arts. Her ethereal beauty belied a wisdom that seemed beyond her years. Her lessons were often punctuated by cryptic riddles, each hint guiding me towards a deeper understanding of magic. Under her tutelage, I unlocked the Elemental Affinity technique, granting me an affinity for a specific element and the ability to wield it with greater potency.
Nathan, a seasoned warrior with a heart of gold, took me under his wing in matters of combat. His grizzled exterior masked a fierce determination and a passion for the art of the blade. Our sparring sessions were grueling, but through each clash, he imparted his knowledge of swordsmanship and tactics. He regaled me with tales of past battles and harrowing encounters, all of which underscored the importance of resilience and strategy on the battlefield.
Liara, a spellcaster with a spark of mischief in her eyes, brought the world of enchantments to life. Her boundless curiosity led us to the library, where we pored over dusty tomes and deciphered cryptic incantations. Through her guidance, I delved into the Spellblade Adept technique, melding weapon proficiency with magical prowess. Her stories of ancient spells and the tantalizing prospect of lost arcane artifacts ignited a yearning within me to explore the uncharted corners of magical knowledge.
As the days passed, a kinship formed between us. It wasn't long before we realized that our individual strengths complemented each other's weaknesses. One evening, under the vibrant hues of the sunset, we made a decision that would solidify our bond: we would become a team of adventurers. Our shared goal was to explore the unknown, to unravel the mysteries that lay hidden in the realm beyond Elenwood.
Our group dynamic was an intricate dance of skills and personalities. Sofia's calculated approach to magic provided us with strategic advantages in battle, while Nathan's battlefield experience lent us a steady hand and a clear path forward. Liara's insatiable curiosity led us to countless discoveries, and my evolving abilities in both combat and magic added depth to our tactical options.
And so, united by our shared purpose and strengthened by our individual talents, we embraced our new path as adventurers. Each sunrise found us training side by side, our camaraderie solidified through sweat and laughter. As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, we became a formidable force, ready to face the challenges that the world would throw our way.
Among the many things I accomplished during these two months, I approached a skilled blacksmith with a unique request. I envisioned a weapon that could embody my newfound power—a weapon that was both imposing and awe-inspiring. The result was a steel spear rod, its intricately crafted form bearing a hammer on one side, an axe on the other, and a two-handed sword blade at its tip. Its weight was daunting, but its potential was undeniable.
My status does show my growth.

With my training behind me, it's time to take the next step. Stepping out of the training facilities, I head straight for the mercenary guild. The sun is high in the sky, casting warm rays across the bustling streets of Elenwood. The familiar scent of baked goods mingles with the lively chatter of townsfolk going about their day. It's a comfortable atmosphere, but I can't help feeling the surge of excitement coursing through me.
Upon arriving at the guild, I notice the sturdy wooden sign hanging above the entrance, bearing the emblem of crossed swords. I push the door open and step inside, greeted by the lively hubbub of mercenaries gathered around, sharing tales of their latest exploits. The interior is more rustic than the modernized exterior of the building. The walls are adorned with weapons, armor, and various trophies, giving the guild an air of adventure.
The reception area is at the heart of the guild, with a large wooden counter where a receptionist is busy sorting through parchments and scrolls. The receptionist looks up as I approach, her warm smile indicating that she's used to handling newcomers.
"Ah, greetings! Welcome to the Mercenary Guild," she says, her voice friendly and inviting. "I see you're new here. Are you looking to register as a member?"
I nod, returning her smile. "Yes, that's right. I've completed my training and I'm ready to take on official missions."
The receptionist's smile widens. "Fantastic! We're always thrilled to have new members join our ranks. To become an official member and gain access to the mission board, you'll need to go through the registration process. Could I have your name, please?"
"Jean," I reply. "My name's Jean."
"Nice to meet you, Jean!" she says cheerfully. "Now, to explain the ranks briefly: we have G, F, E, D, C, B, A, S, and X. The last rank, 'STARS,' is an exclusive tier reserved for the most legendary mercenaries. Since your friends Sofia, Nathan, and Liara are already B-rank, they can't take missions with you unless you register and become part of the official system. Don't worry; the missions are categorized by difficulty, and you can pick the ones that suit your abilities."
I nod, taking in the information. "Understood. What do I need to do to register?"
She hands me a parchment with a quill. "Simply write down your name and sign here. You'll also need to provide a brief description of your skills and abilities. Once that's done, you'll receive a guild badge, and you can start taking missions from the board."
I take the quill and sign my name on the parchment, making sure to list my abilities and training. As I hand the parchment back to her, she gives me a friendly wink.
"You're all set, Jean! Here's your guild badge. Wear it proudly, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Good luck on your quests, and may your adventures be prosperous!"
I take a moment to gather my thoughts before continuing the conversation. "Actually, I have a question. Is there a way for me to potentially advance through the ranks more quickly? I understand the need for caution and experience, but I'm confident in my abilities. Is there some sort of test or examination that could help gauge my skills better? Maybe even a trial against a stronger mercenary?"
The receptionist raises an eyebrow, seemingly intrigued by my request. "An ambitious one, aren't you? Most mercenaries take things step by step, but I admire your confidence. Well, it's not common, but there have been instances where exceptional individuals prove their capabilities and get promoted earlier. As for fighting a stronger mercenary for assessment, we do have a few senior members who take on such challenges occasionally."
She leans in a bit, her voice lowering. "There's one particular senior mercenary who's known for mentoring and testing newcomers. His name is Aric, and he's a formidable warrior. If you're truly confident and seeking to prove yourself, I could speak to him on your behalf and arrange a meeting."
I nod eagerly, grateful for the opportunity. "I would appreciate that, thank you. I don't mean to come across as arrogant, but I believe I'm ready to take on more challenging tasks and contribute to the guild in a meaningful way."
The receptionist gives me an approving smile. "I can see your determination, Jean. I'll send a message to Aric and see if he's available. In the meantime, you can still take up to D-rank missions to gain more experience. Once we have a response from him, I'll let you know."
"Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to the opportunity," I reply with gratitude.
She nods and offers a reassuring pat on my shoulder. "Remember, Jean, even the most skilled mercenaries had to start somewhere. Keep that fire in you, and I'm sure you'll make your mark."
With the Blade-Tail Wolf mission in hand, I exit the guild, my steps reflecting the mix of anticipation and excitement coursing through me. Determination fuels my pace as I make my way to the familiar inn where I know Sofia, Nathan, and Liara are likely gathered. Upon entering, I spot them at a corner table, deep in conversation.
Approaching the table, I clear my throat to get their attention. "Hey, mind if I join you guys?"
Sofia looks up first, her eyes lighting up with a friendly smile. "Jean, perfect timing. We were just discussing our next move. Pull up a chair."
I take a seat, a grin spreading across my face. "Great. I've got some news to share with you all." Their intrigued expressions prompt me to continue. "I talked to the guild receptionist, and I've asked about the possibility of an early promotion. I believe I'm ready to take on more challenging tasks and officially join your ranks."
Nathan raises an eyebrow, impressed by my initiative. "That's a bold move, Jean. Not many people ask for early promotions. But we know you're no ordinary newcomer."
Liara chimes in, her curiosity evident. "So, did they agree? Are you moving up the ranks?"
I nod, a sense of excitement and pride swelling within me. "Well, it's not confirmed yet, but the receptionist said she'd speak to a senior mercenary named Aric. He's known for mentoring and assessing newcomers. If he approves, I might be able to skip some ranks."
Sofia smirks playfully. "Aric, huh? He's not one to give compliments easily. You'll have to show him what you're made of."
As our conversation continues, I steer the topic toward forming an official group. "Speaking of which, I've been thinking. Now that I've requested an early promotion, I thought it would be a good time for us to officially create a group. After all, we need at least four members to form a group, and it would give us an edge on missions."
Nathan nods in agreement. "Makes sense. We've been working together well, and having a formal group designation would definitely be beneficial."
Liara leans forward, her eyes gleaming with enthusiasm. "And with a group, we could also aim for more challenging missions and bigger rewards. We'd be recognized as a united force in the guild."
I chuckle softly. "Exactly my thoughts. So, what do you guys say? Shall we officially become a group?"
Their collective agreement fills the air with excitement as we finalize the decision. As the conversation winds down, I can't help but mull over a lingering question. "Hey, Sofia, Nathan, Liara, can I ask you something?"
Sofia raises an eyebrow. "Sure, what's on your mind?"
I take a deep breath, curious about something that has been bothering me. "Did any of you have any knowledge or inkling about my plan to ask for an early promotion or to face Aric? I mean, I can't help but wonder if it was just a coincidence that the mission ended up being this way."
Nathan chuckles, leaning back in his chair. "You're sharp, Jean. The truth is, we didn't have any direct knowledge about it. But we did have a hunch that you might seek an early promotion sooner or later. You've been progressing quite rapidly."
Liara smirks playfully. "And as for the Aric situation, let's just say we might have left a subtle hint or two about your determination. It was all to see how far you'd take it."
I chuckle, both relieved and amused by their honesty. "Well, I appreciate the support and the subtle nudges. It's good to know I have friends who believe in me."
Sofia winks. "We're a team, Jean. We've got each other's backs. And now that you're officially stepping up, we're going to tackle some serious missions together."
As the evening carries on, we share stories, laughter, and our plans for the future. The prospect of forming an official group and taking on more challenging missions fills me with a renewed sense of purpose and camaraderie. With my friends by my side, I'm ready to face whatever the world has in store for us.
