I stepped out of the car prepared to sell whatever lie I had to to get Lavender away from Annabeth. All I could think of the moment I saw Annabeth was how many years had passed since I had seen her and the secret she took with her when she left.

I had come there prepared to fight for the life of my mate and our child, but seeing Annabeth had everything flooding back in. We had only been kids back then.

She would have only been seventeen when she had gotten pregnant. I could have pinpointed the night that child came into existence. It had been one of the many messed up things my mother had done to save me from Malachi.

Claiming each other verbally in front of the pack had not been enough. Being each other’s first had not been enough. My other kept expecting me to experience everything I felt for Lavender and I thought she didn’t understand it wasn’t a real thing.
