Fate must have heard me come up the stairs. He seemed to be right on my heels and pushed his way through before I could shut the door in his face. I didn’t want to talk to him.

I wanted to stew in the information the doctor had given me. Specifically, I wanted to wallow in a bit of self-hate. Demi made self-criticism a creature of comfort.

Her insults didn’t hurt nearly as bad if I had already thought of myself as she did before she pointed it out. It was almost like watching her tell a joke that I had just finished telling. Either way, I wasn’t completely convinced that this time my ritual would be as effective.

He barreled into the room ready for a fight, but I didn’t have it in me. I was superb at holding my tongue, but after the interaction with Cerberus, my filter didn’t seem in place. I didn’t want to screw up more than I already apparently had.
