Lavender hadn’t left but maybe five minutes before a chime came from my cell phone on the nightstand. I knew they barely would have gotten started with the doctor but the anxiety that filled my chest at the sound seemed to propel me to my phone faster.

It was an email. An email from the anonymous account that I had assumed Goliath had used to email me.

The subject caught my eye as I stood to ask him why he didn’t just come to me directly.
