*SCREEEE*

The screaming sound of a bird-looking monster resounded loudly as if announcing its first hunt— A strange 4 feet tall black, lustrous demon with two separated tail, seemingly unaware of the gluttonous eyes eyeing him from above.

The demon continued to be in daze as he sat perched on a jagged outcropping of rock near the summit of the mountain, his back pressed against the rough surface as he gazed out, taking in the breathtaking view of the abyss.

As if noticing that his prey was seemingly unmoving, staying still at his position. The bird decided to move.

Diving towards his unsuspecting target's back, the bird was quite cautious, despite his target's state he decided to finish it right away and savor up his meal.

But before he could move more closer, he saw a black blur, and before he knew it— His head was firmly ensconced in the clutch of a sharp talon like hand, the demon tried to struggle, but as I said, it t r i e d.

Before he could react, the claw-like hand tightened its grip around the bird's head, squeezing with a crushing force. In an instant—

*POP*

the head was obliterated, bursting into a gruesome explosion of blood and gore, the remnants of its body falling lifeless to the ground. The sheer power of the hand was overwhelming, leaving the onlookers stunned and horrified at the merciless display of force.

The onlookers— a flock of the same bird-like monster species hovered from afar. Apparently wanting to take a piece of someone's hunt.

The hand turned towards them, its three knife-like fingers grasping at the air as if hungering for more. The birds were terrified, sensing the danger that lurked in the grip of the hand. Despite their limited intelligence, they knew instinctively when someone posed a threat.

In that moment, their survival instinct kicked in, prompting them to flee for their lives.

For some inexplicable reason, the 'hand' retracted back to its source, like a snake slithering back to its slumber. The motion was smooth and effortless, as if the hand had never left its place.

The source being the demon's back or more precisely it was the demon's tail.

In a while, Kael snapped out of his dazed state, gazing at the soul clasped within the tail's grasp.

It had been a week since chapter 7. After getting a good sleep for 2 long days, he was refreshed.

---

Quickly finishing his breakfast, he rushed out to hunt and test out his new body modifications. Over the past five days, he had spent every waking moment hunting, scouring the perimeter of his cave for anything that moved.

Thanks to his new legs, he was now faster and more agile than ever, which made hunting in the upper abyss a breeze. His thick, tough skin provided him with a sense of security against physical attacks and venomous creatures, making him feel more confident in his abilities.

However, he knew that his defenses were not foolproof. A powerful strike from a Top Low-rank demon or a skilled magic user could still inflict serious damage. Despite his best efforts to improve his defenses, the system had only given him rudimentary resistance against all types of attacks.

Despite the lack of magic in the upper abyss, he decided to challenge himself by facing a group of monsters, including a flock of fierce birds. He emerged victorious, feeling even more confident in his abilities.

Soon after, he encountered a group of one-eyed monsters with sharp claws and insect wings. Though they managed to slash him in the back, his defense held up, and he defeated them by using his powerful tails to swat them away. All in all, he was becoming a formidable presence in the upper abyss, ready to take on any challenge that came his way.

Be it monsters, demons, flying monsters/demons etc... anything that he could win against, he hunted. Simple as that.

How did he hunt flying creatures? Well as demonstrated earlier, he hunted them by using his tail, which could stretch up to four meters in length. If any flying creature came within that range, it was simply within his reach, and he could use his tail to grab, slice, stab, pierce and various other stuff his tail can do.

His soul count have also gone up, from 9>93. It was not much, but satisfying nonetheless. Considering he only hunted around the perimeter of his cave.

---

Now back to the present, the reason for Kael's earlier stationary state was not because he was letting his guard down, no.

He struggled to recall the series, piecing together the details bit by bit. If he was not mistaken, Roy should have entered into a deep slumber that would last for two months(?).

He wondered if he should just kill him or not. But after thinking carefully, he decided not to.

Roy was also a bearer of the mysterious system, with unknown origin. Though he do remember that some possible theories have been mentioned in the latest chaps, problem is, he kinda forgot it... though he does have one himself, It was still better to be safe.

As the saying goes, 'The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.' Though he was now a demon, the fact remained that just two weeks ago, he had been human.

Shaking those thoughts from his head, he opened his drafts again.

Picking one of the remaining two.

The draft was also a body modification draft, In fact, all of the drafts he drafted last week was of this category.

This time, It was time to get some wings.

The drafted design, was a large, black wings that are reminiscent of a bat's wings. The wings span wide and are made up of several pointed segments that taper to a sharp point at the end. The wings themselves appear leathery or membranous, with a glossy sheen that catches the light.

It's mods and description being; [High speed flight], [Transformation], and [Hard as DuraSteel], this costed him a total of 50 souls.

After pressing the confirmation button and agreeing to add [Painless], the process began.

A large, bat-like, black wings protruded from his back, exactly as the design.

After removing the blood, gore and mucus that clung into them, Kael sat up and stretched his newly acquired wings.

After taking a few experimental flaps, he attempted to take off and fly. However, his efforts to stay aloft were clumsy and uncoordinated, resulting in a brief and embarrassing crash landing. Clearly, he would need a lot more practice to master the art of flying.

Undeterred by his initial failure, he spent the next day tirelessly practicing his technique. Gradually, he began to get the hang of it, and before long he was soaring through the air with ease, grinning from ear to ear and spreading his arms like wings.

"I believe I can fly~~ I believe I can touch the sky~~I think about it ev—"

Kael's off-key singing was interrupted by a chorus of screeching. Looking up, he saw a swarm of huge, menacing flying creatures descending upon him. But instead of panicking, Kael just grinned mischievously. He didn't cower in fear and decided to play a game of tag with these birdies.

As the wind rushed past him, he let out a whoop of excitement, feeling the thrill of flight coursing through his veins.

"Whooooowhooow! This is it!!"

Despite the danger of being chased, Kael felt a rush of excitement as he realized he had gained incredible abilities, including the power to fly. For as long as he could remember, he had dreamed of soaring through the air like a superhero.

Even though as a demon, and not some caped crusader, flying was flying nevertheless. As he soared through the skies, he couldn't help but feel like he was living in a fantasy tale.

With his arms spread wide, he felt the wind rush past him and his heart filled with the thrill of adventure. All those years spent wishing for this moment had finally paid off, and he knew he had the potential to achieve even more.

Filled with newfound confidence, Kael made a promise to himself that nothing would stand in the way of his ambitions. He was ready to take on the world and seize every opportunity that came his way, no matter how daunting.
