"I'll be heading to my office. I'll contact you if I need something," Xander replied nonchalantly without breaking his stride towards his workplace.

"As you wish, Sir," With another respectful bow, the head butler retreated, not causing any further interruption to Xander.

Their footsteps echoed distinctly as they parted directions. One set headed towards the master bedroom, and the other towards the office.

Both destinations were located on the second floor, yet they diverged from the staircase, subtly embodying the divide that seemed to grow between them.

As Eve disappeared down the corridor leading to the master suite, Xander veered off in the opposite direction, to a space that was entirely his own—his office.

The grand staircase separating their paths spoke silently about the widening gulfs in their twice-shared spaces.
