Kapitel 45: Shaken

A few hours passed, Adam won two more matches.

Seated, in the reception hall, Adam examined his new notification, as his shoulders were slightly sunken.

His breathing slightly more intense after the matches, Adam read the message.

[Ding! You have achieved a staggering 10 win streak in the arena, earning the skill: [Fighting Sense] ]

Adam was pleased to have gained another skill, that helped him in battles. However, he was curious as to how fighting sense differed to the battle instinct skill.

Soon, Adam had his doubts answered.

[Fighting Sense: Your understanding of the flow of battle is moderately improved, you know well how to use your advantages in battle. More frequently, you are able to determine the movements your enemy is likely to take.]

Adam's battle skills were starting to become a barracks that could help him in any conflict.

He was sure he would need to rely on his continued effort and acquisition of skills to take on the champion.

Champion's were like boulders, they were not easily moved, but when they did, they were overwhelming.

Adam learned, having nearly lost, that if the runner up was that tough, the champion would make easy work of him.

He would not be so brash.

Adam spent an hour gathering info on the champion, to better understand what he would be eventually facing.

He learned that Umbrul in the past was crushed by the Champion, the weapon of choice of the champion was a giant sword.

The champion had his own win streak of 118 wins.

His name, Zarthak Steelwonder.

How mighty of a name was that?

Comparatively, Adam had a measly streak of 10.

It would be foolish to hurry to get annihilated.

Adam however, could not help but slightly anticipate the battle to come.

Taking a deep breath, he visited Yerlarain and Micheis.

They were growing more confident in him, having greeted him with a beaming smile.

In terms of their betting, they had earned a fair some, but were still lacking.

He did not know the extent of their debt, but they looked much more relieved.

Smirking, at their improved mood, Adam went back to the inn to sleep.

The sunlight of the following day stirred him awake.

Before he headed over to the arena, to raise his streak further, he had pancakes.

His fatigue seemed to drop like a stone, as he tore through several servings.

Following the extensive breakfast, he traveled to the arena.

To defeat Zarthak, he had to grow much stronger.

He estimated he was at least level 40.

Over the course of the next 3 days, 10 more matches were held.

Each match, each victory gave him more experience.

His halberd mastery skill even reached Intermediate.

Adam laid against the wall of the reception hall, as he examined his latest skill that came from his growing streak.

It was 5, then 10, now 20.

He could not deny that the reward wasn't worthy of the effort.

[Ding! Your streak at the arena has risen to an incredible 20, you have earned the skill: [Strong Bearing] ]

Adam, stroking his chin, mused: 'Is this like an aura?'

Focusing on the skill, its description appeared before him.

[Strong Bearing: Your demeanor is more powerful, you are slightly more intimidating, and find it slightly easier to gain skills related to strength.]

This would hopefully not weaken the lowered presence effect of his unknown skill.

If so, that would deprive him of trying to be an assassin, a good one anyway.

Though, upon thinking about it, he did not want to be one.

So there wasn't much to be concerned about there.

Plus, he could probably eventually get a skill that provided him the ability to be more stealthy.

The next day, after 5 participating in 5 more matches, as he sat, the manager walked up to him.

Adam looked up, making eye contact with the manager, Wilbonn, who slightly averted their gaze, their hands on their protruding stomach.

Wilbonn exclaimed: "Hey Adam, great work today! You are like a rising star of Vottrat Arena."

Adam stated: "Thank you, Wilbonn."

Wilbonn inquired: "How does a match with the champion sound?"

Adam replied: "A match with the champion can wait till im ready."

A flicker appeared in Wilbonn's eyes, as they pondered for a moment.

Wilbonn responded: "That's likely the best choice."

"The reason I came over here, is to inform you, that with your growing streak and popularity it would be good to have a meeting with the owner."

He would be here for a while yet, so a meeting could be good. Maybe he could negotiate a deal to help out the Violetstones?

Adam replied: "The owner? Sure, that could be good. When would this meeting be?"

Wilbonn smiled, said: "It could happen soon, in a month, but in that range. The owner travels frequently."

"Alright, thanks for letting me know." Adam said.

Upon waving to Wilbonn, he went back to the inn.

Resting up, and eating a meal for twenty, in the morning, he headed out to the arena.

As he waited for the first match of the day, he looked over his equipment.

The gleam of the blade of his halberd reflected in his eyes.

Adam thought, observing it, 'Thankfully its still in good condition.'

Called upon to enter the arena by Wilbonn, Adam walked out of the arena's passageway.

The sand cratered into the shape of his greaves as he walked forward.

The roaring arena audience shrilly calling his name.

Adam thought, 'What would it be like to be challenging someone who so many people rallied behind?'

Looking over to his opponent. he noticed as he strode forward, his opponents knees were trembling slightly.

The audience and his new strong bearing skill, and that cold-blooded skill too, it left him with an advantage.

His smirk growing, Adam grinned, pointing his halberd at his opponent.

Adam asked, jokingly: "Are you ready, challenger?"

The challenger stiffly said: "Uh..." Their pupils shaking, his opponent, was a young man with short orange hair, who wielded a dagger, which trembled in his grasp.

He hesitantly muttered: "-I surrender."

'That's new.' Adam mused.

The match wrapped up, Adam's streak growing.

His lips gradually turned down as he thought that surrendering before fighting, may be a trend as he won more.

His falling lips stilled as he heard the system ring.

'Really? Okay.' Adam mused.

Focusing his attention back on the arena, his next opponent was swiftly led out, at the booing of the audience.

Rolling his shoulders, Adam faced his next opponent, a frown on his face.

His new opponent wielded a bow.

'Surprise after surprise.' Adam thought.

The match declared to have started, he transitioned into a zagging sprint.

His arm which wielded the halberd extended at his side.

Adam's motivation surged as he considered his upcoming streak reward.

His lips broke into a snarl.
