Kapitel 3: task

"But..." just as Jake was worried, the old man suddenly spoke again.

"But what?" Jake quickly asked. Although he was still reluctant to believe, the old man seemed serious, and considering his previous unlucky life, Jake instinctively paid attention to his words.

"But the divine beings took pity on you, considering how pitiful you are, and wanted to help you," the old man said. "So they gave you this ring. Therefore, you must be grateful to the divine beings and not speak lightly of them."

"The divine beings are playing tricks on people," Jake said discontentedly. "If they are all-powerful, why can't they change my luck? Just let me have good fortune all the time. What's the point of giving me a ring? It's just a charade."

"You... You have no gratitude for the kindness of the divine beings!" the old man became angry again. "According to your fate, your misfortune will continue for several more lives. It is the will of the heavens, and even the divine beings cannot change it easily. They gave you this ring to grant you the ability to traverse space, to travel between here and the real world. Whether it can change your fortune depends on you!" It sounded quite mystical, but Jake shrugged.

"Alright, I'll teach you how to use this ring for teleportation. The rest, you have to figure out on your own. I must leave now. Remember, the capabilities of this ring go beyond simple teleportation. You'll have to explore its other abilities yourself," the old man said. "If we have fate, perhaps we'll meet again in the future."

"Leave? What do you mean?" Jake was puzzled.

However, at that moment, Jake suddenly noticed that the old man in front of him seemed to have changed. His gaze was not as sharp as before, but rather dull and lacking spirit. He appeared completely different, even though his appearance remained the same. Jake couldn't quite describe the feeling, but he could clearly sense the difference.

At this point, the old man spoke again, "Young man, I am the village chief of this village. Recently, the village has been invaded by dark energy, and many animals have become abnormally violent due to its influence. They are destroying crops and posing a threat to the safety of the villagers. Would you be willing to eliminate them?"

"The village chief is assigning you a task: to kill ten dark rabbits. Do you accept?" The familiar mechanical voice appeared again. The old man had indeed changed; his way of speaking became serious, and he even assigned a task. Moreover, he turned out to be the village chief of this village? What was this task?

"The village chief is assigning you a task: to kill ten dark rabbits. Do you accept?" There was no response, and the mechanical voice rang in Jake's ears again.

"Accept, accept." Jake actually didn't know much about this place, but as long as he didn't accept, the mechanical voice would keep ringing in his ears. So, he had no choice but to accept. As expected, after he accepted, the voice finally disappeared.

"Now that you've accepted the task, hurry up and complete it. The villagers have been troubled by those creatures for a long time," the old man urged. Under the old man's repeated urging, Jake, still in a daze, walked towards the outskirts of the village. He was still thinking about what the old man had said earlier. Was it really true?

As a young person educated in the modern world, Jake instinctively felt that all of this was fake. But looking at the surroundings, if everything was fake, why would he be here? If everything was real, then the celestial being mentioned by the old man must be incredibly powerful to effortlessly bring him here. What kind of existence was he?

"So, this is the magic rabbit the village chief mentioned?" When Jake arrived outside the village, he saw a large group of rabbits, about twenty or so, feasting on crops. These rabbits were not much different from the ones Jake usually saw, except they were slightly larger in size. However, as Jake approached them, he noticed their differences.

Although these rabbits had red eyes, there were distinct black patterns at the bottom of their eyes. Their gaze was not gentle but rather filled with aggression. The aura emanating from them made Jake uncomfortable, as if they could attack at any moment.

When Jake was about two meters away from the rabbits, two of them suddenly jumped up and pounced towards him. Their momentum was more like hungry wolves than rabbits. "These really are bewitched rabbits, so fierce."

Startled, Jake instinctively took two steps back in the face of the two ferocious rabbits. However, the two rabbits did not give up and charged at Jake again. Fortunately, the other rabbits seemed to have no intention of attacking Jake and only watched him warily.

Facing the two vicious rabbits, Jake continued to retreat. When he stepped back into the village's territory, the two rabbits stopped chasing him and returned to their original positions.

"These magic rabbits are too fierce," Jake muttered to himself, still feeling a lingering fear, as he watched the two rabbits that had left.

"Young man, you've already completed the task so quickly? I knew I didn't misjudge you," at that moment, the voice of the old man sounded behind Jake. When Jake turned around, the old man was looking at him with a delighted expression on his face.

Jake felt a bit awkward and said, "Well, um, I haven't killed a single one yet. Those magic rabbits are too fierce, each one is like a wolf, too powerful."

"What? You haven't killed a single one? Then why are you here? Hurry up and go!" The old man, who had just been friendly a moment ago, suddenly had a stern expression on his face and scolded Jake. The speed at which he changed his attitude was astonishing to Jake.

"Quick, quick, stop dawdling here," the old man urged again. After urging Jake, he turned around and muttered to himself, "Ah, young people these days, have no courage, far inferior to us back in the day."

Jake felt a bit embarrassed. Summoning his courage, he walked towards the outskirts of the village again. Regardless of why he ended up here, he didn't need to think about that for now. He had to complete the old man's task first and avoid being looked down upon by the old man.

Jake quickly arrived near the magic rabbits. They were still feasting on the crops. Instead of approaching them immediately, Jake looked around and found a wooden stick about half a meter long. He held it in his hand and casually waved it a few times before approaching the magic rabbits. With the stick in his hand, Jake felt a bit more confident.
