The blue spike-haired prince Taurn approached the princess with the sweet-scented bouquet. He wore a patterned long-sleeve with a vest over it. The princess' face turned black as coal. "What is the meaning of this?" she demanded as the air tossed her shiny black hair back and forth, with the crystal crown on her head holding it in place. She wore a blue and white coat over fitting trousers and a top.
"What do you mean?" the prince halted and asked, perplexed. He thought what he was trying to do was obvious. For her to ask that, he found it bizarre.
"Are you trying to make fun of me? We are here to fight, so what are you doing?" she asked coldly. The prince smiled and said, "My princess…"
"I am not your princess", she cut him off. The prince gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. He was infuriated by her behaviour. He did not understand why the princess was being so cold to him. But his anger only lasted for seconds as he did not want to make it obvious.
"Euphrasia, I merely want to present this to you as an expression of…" Before he could continue, she cut him off again. "August, you have been like this since long ago. And I already gave you my answer. I have no plans of changing that. My answer remains the same."
August's hand trembled as he smiled, "Euphrasia, have I wronged you in any way? If so, I shall plead for your forgiveness, or am I not good enough for you?"
Euphrasia's expression relaxed as she answered, "Neither of that…"
"Then why, why do you keep rejecting me? Do you not see how much I love you. Everything I have done for the past years was just so you could accept me, yet you don't seem to have noticed my efforts", he yelled. All those watching almost teared up hearing his words. Some thought the princess' behaviour was just too much. For others, she was being too pompous.
"It's not that, it's… it's just…" Euphrasia stuttered. "Just what!? August demanded.
"It's just... I have always thought of you as a brother, and no matter how much I tried to reciprocate that love, I just can't. It is impossible to have any romantic relationship with you. I am sorry, August, but I can't accept you. You will always be an older brother to me, nothing more."
Thunder resounded, and the rain began to fall in torrents. The bouquet slipped from August's hands and fell to the ground. He dropped to his knees as her words echoed in his head repeatedly. He clutched his chest and roared like a wild animal. He was totally heartbroken.
August's aura started to sour suddenly as his power exploded and spiralled out of control. Green flames covered his entire being, making him look like a ball of fire. His eyes turned bloodshot as his hair stood on end. A sign of madness.
"Oh no!" one of the bystanders yelled. "He has gone mad; he might kill the princess". Many people became conflicted and began yelling for the family heads to take action and stop the fight. Unbeknownst to them, the family heads had already decided to let them sort things out themselves. As the princess was the reason he was going mad, it was only natural she helped him get back to his senses.
Seeing his condition becoming abnormal, the princess withdrew a few hundred feet. "What is wrong with him?" she wondered. "Hey! August, snap out of it", she yelled, but he could not hear a word she said. He was long gone. The only thing left there now was a husk of boiling anger. He grabbed his sword and sprung at her like a beast pouncing on its prey.
Before she could react, he was already before her, his sword coming for her neck. At that moment, she twisted her body to avoid it. It struck the ground, sending up debris and releasing a gust which blew her back.
Without delay, he went after her again. On a plain field with nowhere to take shelter, she could only retreat and not attack. His attacks devastated the field, but none of it grazed her. "August, snap out it…" she tried talking to him but was blown away by another of his attacks.
"I guess I have no choice but to take him on. If it's the only way for my voice to reach him, then so be it". She made her decision and drew her swords. The grasses on the field began to turn white with cold. She attacked him with her might. They clashed, leaving a crater where their swords clashed.
Unlike August's attacks, which were rough and heavy, hers were flexible and swift. She effortlessly blocked all of his attacks, but his attacks kept getting stronger and stronger.
Her breath became chilly as she swung her blades to form an X, headed for August. Flames wrapped around his sword, and he delivered a similar attack, nullifying hers.
"Freezing him isn't going to work with that flame around him. I will have to deal with that flame first". Not waiting for him to recover from the attack, Lorlei delivered a wide-ranged attack which covered the field.
<Azeria Sword Arts: Blizzard>
A strong wind filled with tiny ice crystals like snow surrounded him, and the ice crystals left marks on his face. His flames were not strong enough to stop the ice crystals from penetrating.
He roared once again, and his flames became hotter. He also released a wide-range attack to counter hers.
<Inferno Storm>
Green flames lit the field like pillars of fire, like tornadoes on a stormy night. The two attacks clashed, sending debris everywhere. The collision of both attacks sent the two flying several feet back.
The princess dug through the ground to stop herself from falling over. "Dammit, to think he would stop my attack like this. If it continues like this, I will reach my limit soon since he is not feeling the fatigue or pain in his current state."
Knowing she didn't have the luxury to relax, she moved in for another attack. They clashed blades again, rampaging through the field, devastating it and leaving pits at several points. As time went on, the princess was being pushed back slowly. Another attack from the crazed August sent her flying.
She landed on her back, raising a cloud of dust. She was buried two meters deep in the ground. The crazed August was already over at the hole, releasing a barrage of attacks at her. She exploded out of the hole without hesitation to avoid his attacks. The attack landed in the empty crater, increasing its size.
She leaned against her sword after withdrawing and panted heavily. "If I don't stop this soon, August would be in trouble, as would I". She stood up as her power erupted like a tsunami. For the first time since the start of the battle, the crazed August paused and did not attack.
"I never wanted to use this skill against you, but in your current state, you leave me no choice. August, I am sorry". Her foot techniques suddenly changed, and her movements looked like she was skating on ice. She moved so fast; the crazed August could not keep track of her. He roared madly as intense green flame spread around him.
Whatever he did was futile as the frost from Lorlei dried out the flames around him. Frost rapidly spread across the field with August as its centre. From above, it looked like a giant ice crystal surrounded August.
"This ends here."
