(Julian)
"Eh..?"
I returned to the village from before. The village that took me in after my enslavement.
To my surprise, it was no longer a simple, small village. A lot more industrial.
There was chatter everywhere. It wasn't quiet, like before.
Even at night, the streets were lit well.
This was all… so much!
I stopped by a shop on the road. A restaurant of the sort. This was nothing like before.
But, there was a familiar face. The doctor who had healed me up a while ago!
"Doctor! Do you remember me!" I walked up to his table, as he sat alone, sipping his coffee.
He turned his head, looking up at me. He squinted.
I got the wrong guy! I swear it was the old man. But instead, it was a young man. Blonde hair, with round spectacles. His eyes were dark green, and his expression was blank.
"Julian…?" he said my name, slowly.
"E-eh? You know me?!"
"You don't remember? I'm that doctor from before."
"N-no way… You've become so… young and… handsome?"
A hearty laugh escaped from his lips.
"That was my disguise, young buck. But, I don't work as a doctor anymore."
He took another sip from his cup, until placing it down.
"Come on, sit. I'm sure you're wondering how this place got so advanced."
He read my mind.
…
..
.
"By the way, what would you like me to call you? I don't know your name and all, so…"
"My name? Faustus. Fau for short."
"Are we really that close for me to be able to call you such an endearing nickname?"
"It's not endearing," he responded.
"Ah, okay, Fau. Now, tell me!"
"Well, turns out, there was a huge amount of mana stones under this village. The chief dug it up, and sold it."
"Mana… stones?"
"You don't know what a mana stone is?"
"…"
"It's a stone that has mana in it."
"Oh. I expected it to be a bit more complex."
"Right. So, the funds increased, and the village got bigger. There's your explanation."
Faustus leaned back in his chair.
"Thanks for explaining that to me."
"What're you doing back here anyway?"
"I'm not sure."
…
(---)
Julian sat alone at his table. Now that Fau was gone, he was pretty lonely.
Fortunately, Faustus was kind enough to buy him a meal. A chicken sandwich, with warm milk on the side. A strange combination.
There were packets of cinnamon and sugar on the side, along with several other strange packets. Chicken soup, radish, you name it.
"Weird.."
Julian tore the cinnamon packet, gently sprinkling it into the warm milk.
"Cinnamon and milk. That's a new one."
He then bit into the sugar packet. He licked some of it, before sprinkling it into the milk as well. He mixed it all in with his finger.
"I haven't eaten something so luxurious in a while." Julian rubbed his hands, smiling.
"You should've asked for a chocolate packet. The milk is gonna taste incomplete."
Julian turned his head, to locate where the feminine voice was coming from. His left.
He looked up.
Her pockets were in the hands of her black jacket. She wore a skirt that fell just above her knees.
She had silky lavender hair of great volume, falling down her back. Her skin was a little pale, though not unhealthy. Her eyes were a dark black, and her expression was a little cheeky.
She threw a chocolate packet at Julian. A chocolate packet was strange, but Julian wasn't even paying attention to that.
"Mind if I sit here?" she asked. Julian shook his head.
She sat down, her hands still in her pocket.
"I haven't seen you around here. You new?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm… I'm new."
"There are some other kids that I can get you accompanied with."
"That'd be nice!"
Julian picked up his cup of milk, dumping the chocolate into it. He followed the strange girl.
"By the way, I never got your name."
"Don't worry. You'll find out later."
She stopped.
Julian found himself in an alleyway.
