Kapitel 165: Chapter 165

As Deva Path's figure ascended into the sky, Carnes, who had been lounging in a rocking chair, swiftly adjusted his position.

This was a scene he had witnessed before in the anime, but this time, it was real. He wanted to savor every moment of this infamous classic.

While Deva Path continued his ascent, Tsunade and the others began to realize that something was amiss.

"Wait, what's this guy trying to do?" Tsunade questioned, her brow furrowing in concern.

Even Kakashi shared her confusion, turning his gaze toward Carnes in hopes of finding some insight.

However, Carnes sat there reclined in his chair, legs crossed, hands behind his head, and the posture of someone enjoying a show.

The only thing missing was a popcorn in his hand.

It would have completed his image.

Kakashi couldn't help but feel a sense of disbelief.

He furrowed his brow, three distinct lines forming on his forehead.

Was this what they referred to as the bad behavior of the powerful, remaining always relaxed even in these tense moments?

But it all felt a bit too unconventional for his liking.

Deva Path, now high above them, continued.

"Those who do not know true pain will never understand true peace…"

His words resonated with his current posture, and the tension in the air thickened.

Even Carnes, who had been nonchalant until now, offered a single praise.

'This is really cool.'

In the dense forest on the outskirts of Konoha Village, an eerie atmosphere prevailed as the Animal Path had just summoned all the other Pains, except for the Deva Path, and Konan, using the Summoning technique.

They gazed upon the nearly destroyed Naraka Path.

Konan's brows furrowed as she examined the gruesome injury.

"This kind of cut, such a precise technique... Could there truly be a person of this caliber within the village? Could it be that mysterious figure he mentioned?"

"No, it's the man with wings."

"His name is Demiurge!" Animal Path replied firmly.

Among the six Pains, their thoughts and visions were entirely shared, allowing them to share a comprehensive understanding of the situation.

They were well aware of the brutal nature of the attack that Naraka Path had endured—the speed and abilities of the enemy were nothing short of terrifying.

Konan decided not to delve too deeply into the matter at that moment, instead cutting to the chase.

She turned her attention to the Animal Path before her and asked him with a sense of urgency.

"What's the plan? What're you trying to do?"

Animal Path Pain raised his head, his demeanor mirroring the Deva Path's confidence.

"I'll explain everything. It's time we use that jutsu."

Konan's eyes widened in shock upon hearing this proclamation.

Her expression grew serious, and she voiced her concern, her voice tinged with worry.

"No, using that jutsu will undoubtedly shorten your lifespan!"

However, Konan's warning went unheeded, they were left hanging in the air, as several of the Pains began to fall, one after the other...

The situation was taking a perilous turn.

In the midst of this dire situation, Konan turned her gaze skyward, her emotions a tumultuous mix of concern and nervousness.

"The powers of all the paths will be used... Nagato, are you really planning to use that technique?" she asked.

At this point, the Deva Path, who was controlled by Nagato, was entirely consumed by the overwhelming negativity and the dark turmoil festering within his heart.

Konan's attempts to calm him were futile, they held no sway over him.

There was nothing left in his heart but a longing for complete annihilation.

The Deva Path had ascended to unprecedented height, its supremacy extending over the entirety of Konoha Village, leaving it helpless at his feet.

On the Hokage rooftop, Tsunade and her subordinates grew increasingly anxious. They were gripped by mounting anxiety.

"What's happening? Are they retreating?"

Tsunade wondered aloud, her gaze fixed upon the distant figure of the Deva Path, now reduced to a mere speck in the distance.

Her brows furrowed as she tried to decipher their intentions.

The puzzlement in her eyes was mirrored by everyone present there.

"That guy, what is he planning?"

"I can't quite put my finger on it, but I have a feeling this is about to get much worse."

"I sense that the scale of his attack will be huge," she replied.

"You're right!"

Carnes, who had been reclining in a rocking chair, suddenly got up, breaking his silence for the first time.

It was the first time he had spoken since his arrival.

His words captured the attention of everyone present.

They had heard of Carnes' formidable strength from Kakashi, and Tsunade had mentioned his association with Jiraiya, but beyond that, he remained an enigma.

So, beyond these tidbits, little was known about him.

He had been observing the unfolding events silently, a mysterious figure seemingly detached from the world.

So, why did he choose to suddenly speak now?

Kakashi, in particular, was quick to respond, approaching Carnes with a mixture of curiosity and wariness.

Although others had only heard about Carnes's abilities and powers secondhand, as they had not witnessed it themselves.

But they recognized the aura of power that emanated from him.

Kakashi, on the other hand, was well-acquainted with the man's capabilities.

It was a power that transcended their understanding.

Kakashi couldn't help but think that the only person who might rival and stand on par with Carnes was the legendary First Hokage, Senju Hashirama.

"Carnes-san, can you please elaborate on what you just said?"

"What do you mean by...?" Kakashi inquired cautiously, his voice trailing off.

Carnes, with an audible crack in his stiff neck, replied calmly.

"Exactly what it sounds like. Your Hokage's intuition is spot on."

"Naga...that man in the sky is indeed gearing up for a huge attack. It would be wise for you to be prepared."

Kakashi felt a shiver run down his spine.

If even Carnes referred to it as a "huge attack," just how big was it going to be?

Kapitel 166: Chapter 166

The unease that had already settled over the group intensified, amplifying the tension that now gripped them all.

Kakashi's gaze rested on the composed and relaxed figure of Carnes before him, his thoughts swirling with uncertainty.

Deep down, he felt a strong urge to ask for the man's help in protecting the village. However, their relationship was complex, which left Kakashi at a loss for words.

Carnes wasn't related to him, he had no familial ties to him, nor was he resident of their village.

His only claim to connection was as a so-called friend of Jiraiya, yet it was undeniable that Carnes had once come to their rescue.

'What more can we expect?' Kakashi mused in silence, his internal turmoil mirroring the uncertainty etched on his face.

Tsunade, noticing Kakashi's internal struggle, couldn't fathom why he thought so high about this stranger.

Granted, Carnes was a friend of Jiraiya and held the Sannin's unwavering trust.

It was entirely possible that Carnes possessed considerable strength, perhaps even surpassing Jiraiya.

But, in Tsunade's eyes, that alone didn't justify Kakashi's concern.

Still, she couldn't help but wonder.

'Why all this fuss over one man?'

After a moment of contemplation, she shifted her attention to Carnes and asked.

"Carnes, I recall you mentioned a few days ago, you mentioned that Jiraiya entrusted you with a mission in our village."

"Could you tell us on what mission exactly did Jiraiya entrusted you with?"

Rather than directing her question at the Deva Path directly, she indirectly referred to Jiraiya.

It was the sole common ground she shared with Carnes.

Carnes sighed inwardly at the situation as he found himself in a quandary, entangled in the web of lies he had spun.

He had learned the hard way that one lie inevitably led to another.

All he had ever wanted was to be a spectator, not a main character in someone else's story.

'I just wanted to enjoy the show. Why must I be dragged into the spotlight' Carnes thought to himself.

'Why must everyone insist on casting me as a character in this drama? Why can't I just enjoy the show?' He lamented internally.

"As for Jiraiya's entrusted mission," he replied, "you will naturally know it when the time is right."

Tsunade, undeterred, pressed on. "Can you at least share with us the true intentions of this 'Pain'? What is he going to do?"

As Tsunade pressed him further, asking about Pain's true intentions, Carnes found himself cornered.

He glanced skyward, contemplating his response.

Pain ascended into the sky, once again uttering those cryptic words that sent shivers down her spine.

It was an unsettling moment for her, to say the least.

Carnes gazed upwards, a sense of foreboding settling over him.

"Perhaps there's no need for me to say it..."

He finally replied, his gaze locked on the figure high in the sky.

Deva Path, sun and Konoha Village formed an uneasy triangle configuration, an unsettling fear gripped everyone.

At that moment, Deva Path, or more accurately, Nagato, who had lost all semblance of sanity suddenly spoke.

"I will never forget the pain that Yahiko suffered... "

He declared, his voice trembling with conviction.

"And now...."

He continued, his words echoing ominously.

"This world shall know pain."

The words hung in the air, a haunting chime resonating in the depths of everyone's soul present there.

A blinding white light erupted from the heavens, enveloping the entire Konoha Village and every person living within its confines.

Countless skilled ninjas gazed skyward, a collective expression of dread and disbelief etching itself upon their faces.

Even Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage herself, wore an expression of sheer horror and disbelief etched across her face.

The voice of Deva Path rang out, chilling everyone to the bone as he declared.

"Almighty Push!"

In that fateful moment, an overwhelming surge of unimaginable energy was unleashed, and it felt as if the world was about to end.

It was a force capable of erasing Konoha Village from existence in an instant.

Deva Path's attack was well directed.

The sheer force behind it was enough to raze the Konoha Village to the ground, obliterating everything in its path.

And then, a voice, tinged with the weight of countless years and ancient wisdom, reverberated throughout the battlefield, reaching the ears of all those present.

"I have witnessed the emergence of the ultimate evil, and the time has come for me to intervene."
