Kapitel 41: - Welcome to Hell (Part 3)

"BRING IT ON YOU UGLY MOTHERFUCKERS!!!" Hyunji screamed as her scythe materialized in her hand. The skeletons remained completely silent, except for the rattling of their bones as they stood from the sand.

Their dead, unseeing eyes stared at her as they began to stumble forward.

Fire continued to rain from the sky, and Hyunji sidestepped the flames as they neared her. Her boots had completely melted off now, and her feet seared in pain. But instead of realizing the pain, she turned it into rage. The scythe whirled in a circle, cutting undead instantaneously, as they spawned from the sand by the hundreds.

Minutes passed, and Hyunji began to run out of energy. Thousands of bodies laid around her in a circle. Not a single one had made it within a foot of her yet.

But they were still coming. An endless stream of them.

The bones began to rattle, and as if connected by magic, they began to float in the air and reattach to their original bodies.

Hyunji began to wonder if it was possible to come out of this situation alive. An unstoppable, invincible horde? How would she ever make it to the next level?

Magic. They're being controlled by magic.

It was a stupid thought, but not impossible.

But who was controlling them? There was no one besides skeletons in the near vicinity, but her view was obscured by the mountainous dunes of sand.

I gotta get out of this circle.

Charging forward, Hyunji plunged her scythe into the sand, using her momentum to catapult over the horde. She began to fly through the air, speeding with much more force than she'd expected.

I've gotten stronger, she realized.

Hyunji landed on top of a dune, rolling to slow her momentum. Stumbling to her feet, she once again took in her surroundings.

There.

A couple hundred feet away was a massive man, laying on the ground, face up, staring at the maroon sky above. His head, arms, and legs bounded.

"So you're the one who's been causing me all this trouble," Hyunji said as she approached the giant. "You want to die?"

"I've died already…," the giant said absentmindedly. He didn't look away from the sky.

"You've never died twice," she said, now within striking range.

"Please don't kill me. They forced me to send those skeletons, or else I would be burned again. I just want some semblance of peace in this shitty afterlife, Hyunji Quon of Earth."

She stopped in her path. "Who are you?"

"I am Capaneus. A misunderstood hero punished to an eternal hell. All I wanted was glory for my people. For my family. They were everything to me. My only reason for living. And now they're all alone in the world, because of my mistakes. What're you down here for, little girl?"

"A misunderstanding as well," she said, letting her scythe dissolve in her hand. "I just wanted my brother to be safe. And now he's in jail, and I've abandoned him. If I don't get back, who knows what'll happen to the poor kid."

Capaneus let out a chuckle, full of longing and pain. "There's no way out of here. You're stuck forever."

"Liar," Hyunji spat. "I'll find my own way out."

"You don't understand. There's no path you can take to get to another level from here. I've wandered the entire realm infinitely using my skeletons. There is no end to the sand."

"Why don't we find a way together? We both need to get out of here, right?"

Capaneus sighed. "My family is long dead by now. Even if I did get out, what would be the point in living in the real world again?"

"How long has it been since your family died?"

"Hundreds of years by now. I don't even know where I'd find their graves."

"Listen to me. I have powers. They're getting stronger with each passing day. I can't tell you everything, but there may be a way, at some point in the future, that I can bring your family back from the dead."

"I don't believe you, Hyunji Quon. I've lost the ability to trust a long, long time ago."

"What else do you have to lose?" She asked, desperation creeping into her voice.

"Myself," Capaneus said. "Go ahead. Kill me, if it'll make you feel better."

Hyunji again summoned her scythe, stepping forward. Bringing it over her shoulder, she brought it down in a wide arc.

The blade sliced apart the giant's chains on his right arm and right leg. She did it a second time for the other side.

Capaneus sat up, blinking. "What've you just done?"

"We're getting out of here."

"I just told you, there's no way out!"

"Have you ever tried going down?"
