Jessica's heart pounded as the carriage rumbled along the winding road to Beskire. Her decision to visit her family was driven by an overwhelming sense of nostalgia and longing that had grown within her ever since she'd been turned into a vampire. She knew it was a risky move, defying Renard, her vampire mentor, but she couldn't resist the pull of her past.

Renard had warned her to leave her past behind her, she was now a vampire and humans were not receptive to their kind.
