Kapitel 35: The Unseen Enemy

Li Xue's instincts told her that, despite their recent victory, something was amiss. As days went by, she noticed a subtle, underlying tension within the kingdom. Whispers and sideways glances filled the palace, and an air of unease lingered like a shadow over the Mermaid Kingdom.

Determined to understand the cause of this disquiet, Li Xue began to investigate. She spent long hours pouring over ancient scrolls and speaking with various members of the court. It was during one of these conversations that she first heard the rumors of an unseen enemy.

"Your Highness," a palace servant whispered to her one day, "there is talk of a traitor in our midst, someone who seeks to undermine the kingdom and bring about our destruction."

Li Xue's eyes widened at this revelation, her heart heavy with concern. "Why would someone do such a thing?" she asked, her voice barely audible.

The servant shook her head. "I do not know, Princess. But I thought it best to inform you so that you may take action to protect our people."

Li Xue thanked the servant for her loyalty and promised to look into the matter. With renewed urgency, she delved deeper into her investigation, determined to uncover the identity of this mysterious antagonist.

She enlisted the help of her allies, Prince Min-Ho and Princess Aanya, and together they worked tirelessly to gather information. They interviewed palace guards, nobles, and even commoners, hoping to find any clues that might lead them to the traitor. As their investigation continued, a troubling pattern began to emerge.

Several key members of the Mermaid Kingdom's council had been acting strangely, their loyalties seeming to shift away from the kingdom and its people. Li Xue's mentor, ever the cautious advisor, urged her to approach the situation with care. "We cannot act on suspicions alone, Princess," he warned. "We must gather concrete evidence before confronting the council members."

Li Xue agreed, but she could not shake the feeling that time was running out. As the days passed, the tension within the kingdom continued to escalate, and Li Xue could sense that something sinister was brewing beneath the surface.

One evening, as Li Xue and her allies were gathered in the palace library, they made a startling discovery. Hidden within the pages of an ancient tome, they found a series of encoded messages detailing a nefarious plot against the Mermaid Kingdom. The messages revealed that the traitor, or traitors, sought to overthrow the monarchy and seize power for themselves.

With this evidence in hand, Li Xue knew that she could no longer afford to wait. It was time to confront the council members and expose the traitor within their ranks. She summoned a secret meeting, inviting only those she trusted to be present.

The atmosphere in the council chamber was tense as Li Xue, Min-Ho, and Aanya arrived, the weight of their discovery pressing heavily upon them. Li Xue stepped forward, her voice strong and clear as she addressed the room. "We have gathered here today because we have uncovered a plot against our kingdom, a betrayal that threatens to destroy everything we hold dear."
