Because Mei-Mei was sleeping and she had no desire to wake the young girl up so she asked Muyang to follow her to the bathroom where they could talk privately.

"Where is everyone?" she asked as soon he shut the door.

Your father went bed early with a headache, your mother followed him and your brothers are yet to come back home. 

"What about your family?"

"My grandparents are keeping the queen mother and the grand emperor company in our house. 

Chi Lian squeezed her eyebrows tight in thought.' Grand emperor, grand emperor ' she recited in her mind.

"The grand emperor is the former emperor." Muyang reminded her as if he had read her mind.

"Right." she  said. "Hold on," she said after a few seconds of realization, "Why are the retired royals here?"

Shouldn't they be in the capital city? she thought.

  "They came to meet Mei-Mei and ask you for a favor."
