Rosalie was putting some makeup to cover her puffy eyes, which was a result of prolonged crying. In the end she failed to poison that man, she had planned on killing both herself and him. The resentment for her son's perpetrator lost against the man she loved.
'How long am I going to keep failing as a mother? I know Anastasio and Nathenel already have a plan, but to be honest, that involves a dangerous uphill path. Both Nixon and Navien are dangerous, and the cruor is like a mad hound. Even if my sons are powerful these people are extreme.'
"Has my Rosie been crying?" His arms wrapped around her firmly, which startled her.
Nixon is always quick to catch, so she composed herself before replying, "You know it's always the same feeling for me everytime I have to leave this home." It wasn't a lie completely, however today that was not the reason.
"Rosalie. Even I don't want to let you go. Actually I would never let you go." He called her name as he inhaled her scent and then suddenly placed a platinum pendant which was designed as a rose.
"This?" She was surprised as it was unexpected, it wasn't even her birthday.
"I thought I should give you this now, because, meeting frequently might be difficult as things are quite tense at the moment. So lest your feelings for me never waver. You are mine, it will remind you of that." His embrace tightened, "So never take it off. Okay?" He kissed her gently.
Nixon looked at Rosalie intensely through the mirror, as if he was captivating her image for a long time.
As she was about to leave he stopped her abruptly and pulled her into a deep kiss, caressing her cheek he said, "Tell Nathenel this father will be watching him always. Wherever he is I will be there with him." Rosalie nodded in agreement, though he sounded a bit melancholic.
Why did it have to turn like this, "Nixon can't we just settle down. I have some savings, and I am sure you too have, we can go to another region, or even another country. I don't know if it's age or something but I really wish to live in peace with you. A small warm home with you."
Nixon smirked, "After sacrificing for all these years you ask me to leave the war I started? That's not possible. You are changing Rosie, you surprise me. I know you yearn for a peaceful life, that's what that Faunoa brat lured you with, isn't it? He treated you well in every way. But, you mustn't forget our sufferings Rosie. Peace will come soon, I can see our victory. You will get the peace that you want."
She left after receiving a gentle peck from him.
Nixon watched her leave through the gateway until she boarded her car, which left a dusty trail.
From his pocket he took out the small vial, and smiled after looking through it, "A mother can even take a bullet for their children. It's true.Your motherhood for that bastard even instigated you for something like this? You should have killed me Rosalie while you could. You should never let a wounded beast be. I wonder if he would forgive you, if the woman he treasures the most in this world is in danger, or worst dies because of you? You pushed me to show you my ugly side Rosie, I am sorry that I will have to remind you, that you are my person and your leash is tied to me."
Grabbing his morning coffee, he fired up his computer, it would be fun watching every move of his enemy sitting at the comfort of his bedroom, the inbuilt camera on the pendant is of the highest quality, so every detail would be visible. Even though she said, she would return to the magnolia estate, but Nixon knew Rosalie was rushing back to where Anastasio was, it was just as he had expected, but he would play a bit more before the final hit and the next moment, he dialled a number, "Hello Professor Langton. There's something that might interest you."
The fresh map was sketched and Evelyn was stunned, that it revealed more than a location, it had the details of a vault which was built within the clock tower, and it pointed at the old clock.
"I wonder why the clock tower was neither renovated nor dismantled." she asked.
"Then you would have never reached the vault even if you had the entire map drawn." Anastasio's reply was cold but straight to the point. Eve was disappointed because he had been acting distant it was because of the fight they had earlier.
Lately because of long hours of meeting, plotting about the future measures, considering every worst possible scenario, spending sleepless nights thinking about what new challenge the next day would bring, both of them would be riled up, their differences of opinions would lead to bad fights, and eventually Anastasio would end up turning cold and withdrawn lest not to hurt her. While Evelyn wouldn't know how to strike a conversation lest it would lead to another dirty fight.
They were a newly wed couple, but it seemed they were already married for Twenty years, grew tired of each other. Evelyn hated it how things were turning out, whether she was overacting Or was it really that stressful.
"This cold, insensitive jerk, that's not what sister in law was implying." Nathenel quipped, while throwing a pillow at Sio. He had started acting freely with Anastasio, once he became comfortable with his identify, he was too happy to atleast have a brother like Sio from his mother.
The family ties he had learnt to dread in his entire life, was the one he is cherishing the most now.
Sio glared at Nathenel, "Are you cursing your elder brother a bit too much these days?" But he completely ignored, and continued responding to Eve.
"As far as I have found out, out of all the properties the Betrice had in posession everything was ceased by the empire. However, the clock tower was situated in an off beat area, the empire never cared about such things. And instead they made a bigger clock tower at the capital. Surprisingly till date it's been like that, deserted and untended mostly, the papers of the property were never found on the first place."
"That's because that property was within the Betrice estate. Something that we grew up as knowing as a barren land was the pride of the Betrice. They were extremely rich as a merchant house." Anastasio informed jumping into the conversation.
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh at the irony of fate, while her father died in debt, here was the prove that they were extremely wealthy once, it was really hard to believe.
"Then I shall visit the clock tower tonight. As visiting it during the day would draw undue attention." Evelyn suggested.
"Are you crazy? Why don't you do something, you should just invite the cruor right here inside our home. Why bother? Do you have any idea how dangerous it can become? When will you grow some sense?"
Eve clenched her fist, it was starting again, Anastasio has been like this after the accident, she knew where he is coming from, he wanted to keep her safe.
Rosalie had joined them a moment ago, Eve didn't wish to fight in front of his mother.
"Then what am I supposed to do wait here for eternity while the remnants of my father's body withers away in soil? Didn't you suggest a while ago that I should do as I think right. So here it is."
"That's because I was mad..." he tried to explain.
But Eve was running out of patience, "I know where you are coming from. But for a daughter whose father has been brutally murdered, it doesn't matter I would do anything to get the clue. If the answers to my questions lie in the vault, whether you come with me or not. I will go there. Forget it you won't understand my pains." Evelyn stomped away before it got uglier, there were too many people in the room. She didn't notice the palour in Anastasio's face, but Rosalie did, and flinched immediately. His father had taken his last breath in his hand. How would he not know?
