Kapitel 3: Chapter II

After a week had passed, I practiced the basic leaf exercise to control my chakra. Previously, I could barely split the leaf before it was blown away by the wind, but now it was as easy as sticking it to my forehead and commanding it to split.

"Hmm… I think I've done it in the wrong order. I must be imagining it," I thought to myself.

Suddenly, someone called out my name. "Nobuyuki-san, the sensei is calling." Itachi nudged me on the shoulder and motioned his head to the right where Kato-sensei was smiling at me.

"Have you been paying attention?" Kato-sensei asked.

The words stuck in my throat and I could only robotically reply, "I-I think so..."

Kato-sensei nodded, and then turned to the class. "Looks like Nobuyuki-kun has learned the leaf exercise which I demonstrated earlier. Nobuyuki-kun, could you stand up in front of the class and show us how you did it?"

My fear of Kato-sensei was greater than my embarrassment, so I stood up in front of the class and demonstrated the exercise.

"Like this?" I asked as a leaf was blown to my forehead and cleanly split in two.

The class was silent. Did I do something wrong? I wondered. Please tell me! The dead silence made me hate the attention.

"Nobuyuki-kun, the leaf exercise consists of making the leaf stick to your forehead and not cutting it. That's an advanced and different technique you could learn later on," Kato-sensei explained.

"Oh, is that so?" I realized that I had been doing it in the wrong order. "Then I can do it," I assured them.

I attempted to put another leaf on my forehead, but fate, as if mocking me, had other plans. Against all expectations, the leaf was cleanly cut into smaller parts. Even worse.

Kato-sensei looked at me solemnly. "You can sit down, Nobuyuki-kun."

"Yes," I said, feeling uncomfortable under his stare and wanting to bolt out of the room, but my feet guided me to my desk. I silently screamed as I plopped my face onto its surface...

.

"Although you have done it backward, what you're doing is nothing short of amazing, Nobuyuki-kun. Not many can say that they've done a transformation technique at such a young age," Kato-sensei praised me after class.

"It's just an accident," I tried my best to brush it off.

"Well, in any case, I can see you will be going far with your talent," he continued, but then frowned. "Although there's one little thing, I need you to fix. Can you overcome your shyness?"

It's not shyness! If you only knew, Kato-sensei, I cried inwardly. It's not something I can naturally overcome, or else I would have done it long ago. Though it was just an excuse since I thought it wouldn't become much of a problem.

"Curiosity killed the cat, and overconfidence killed Nobuyuki, as Sun Tzu said," I muttered under my breath.

"I don't think it will be easy." I said in defeated tone while refusing to meet his gaze.

He looked at me weirdly before nodding to himself, satisfied. I wonder what he was thinking.

"It's alright. I'll work on something," he said.

Not sure what it was, I simply nodded to him. "Y-yes…"

I hoped it wasn't something bad...
