Erik swallowed before he answered. "I'll do whatever you'd wish. I can stay here and watch her. Take her away. I just want her safe. I can't let her get hurt here, because they'll get their hands on her. She doesn't… dream like I do. When she goes back, she's directly in their clutches. I can't… I can't fathom that."

I looked up at David and my heart rushed with warmth. He tipped his head and whispered, "You decide. I trust you."

Then I smiled. "Seems fitting, don't you think, if the Dark Queen's first move is to free a suspected Physicist?"

Erik's breath caught, but he didn't speak.

David nodded slowly. "What if she doesn't accept Erik though? She thinks he's me."

That was something I didn't want to think about, so I just shoved it aside.
