Kapitel 15: Jeremy Morgan, Grey Ghost of the Seven Seas

Grey Ghost.

That's my epithet. Awarded to me by the Edward Teach aka Blackbeard, after I sunk a portion of his fleet.

I didn't even know who it was. I saw loot, and took it. The wrecked ships were "eaten up" my mine and the many tendrils from the bottom of my ship would bring up any of the derelict as it's sinking or from the ocean floor.

The Santiana has gotten several upgrades since it's maiden voyage.

The tendrils being one of the major ones. Another one is the removal of sails and oars/fins. It now uses organic impellers and pumps to channel water into and out of the ship to make it move. Cruising speed in 30 knots. Full speed is 70 knots. It's a gigantic speedboat. A heavily armed speedboat at that.

I've had to exchange several treasures for the artillery pieces and shells. But it was so worth it. I changed the single-shot pieces on the gun deck to 155mm turrets. I also added 2 88mm turrets and a few .50cal Gatling guns on the main deck.

A minor improvement was the link between weapons and my commands. I gave myself enhanced eyesight. In the sense my vision has a zoom function, currently up to 25x. The necessary background procedures are being handled to go up to 100x. I essentially need to add the required muscles and neural pathways in my eyes. Then reinforce and enhance everything around my eyes, muscles and optic nerve. Then improve my neural network from optical nerve to the brain and finally the brain, so all the information is easily processed.

It took some time to get used to it, a few weeks in fact. But I took the enhancements slowly. I got used to one setting before I did something else. I'm not doing something in one go and fucking it up. It's better to fuck-up one thing at a time. It's easier to un-fuck later.

The brain is the last to have the enhancements, simply because it can cope with added stimulus. The improvements I've already made are able to handle most sensory upgrades I have planned. A larger hippocampus and more efficient cerebral cortex are the last steps. They will be handled in due time.

The Santiana is the ruler of the Caribbean seas. Now to cement this claim and reap the rewards.

In order to do so, I will have to sail to Europe. From here. I've tried to enter the same instance of the dungeon from different locations. It's similar but not the same. The time period is different. The people I'm expecting to meet are either dead or haven't been born yet. Or, as on one occasion, I'm here before the colonial era, so there's only natives on the mainland. The islands are empty.

That was the time I had to fight of more…mythical creatures. That I knew nothing about.

I would prefer familiarity when engaging in a dungeon dive.

Hence my increasing collection of books on history and mythology. It pays to be informed. It also pays to have a shit-ton of ammo. I'm just going to stick to normal firearms for now. I really want to make a bone gun mk.2. But I want it to be integrated into my body as an extra limb. If I'm going to have 1 extra limb, why not 4? Very much like Doctor Octavius. Turns out, it's annoying and a waste of biomass.

The first solution is to get extra arms and give them a gun each. While it sounds simple, it's a complicated procedure and process. Just processing extra presence of extra limbs takes time to get used to. Not to mention becoming proficient enough to use complex tools with them.

The second solution is to use octopus like tentacles. Now you're a hentai monster, and can't aim a gun to save your life.

Another solution is to simply have limbs that end in sharp blades/points. But if I wanted to stab things, I'd be using a pointy stick of some sort.

The best solution so far seems to be becoming a space marine type person. Get upgraded organs, a second skin black carapace, dope ass armour and badass toys. The downsides however are numerous. I don't know half the things I should, half as well as I should. Biology, genetics, metallurgy, robotics and software are all fields of study I need to improve in. Even though there is a group of software enthusiasts that are helping me skim money from criminal accounts and channel it into a corporation owned investment fund.

Running a business in the industrial age is very different from doing so in the internet age. For one, marketing is mostly word of mouth. Do a good job, you get more customers. Make a bit of noise here and there, but your reputation and client base is based on the quality of your product.

I have the best novelty plants. The aristocrats and oligarchs want them. Guess what, everyone knows about Jeremy Morgan, the gardener. I grow everything from black roses to white bergamot oranges. There is a breed of fragrant grasses I've come up with, that release their smell in the evenings. I've sold those grass seeds for their weight in gold.

Oh and people pay. Those who don't are hanging from the trees around my property. Strange fruit indeed.

Coming back to the dungeon dive and my epithet. The reward for getting it, was timeline continuity functionality added to the Dungeoneer skill. Basically I pick up where I left off, no more jumping around all over the place in the timeline of that particular dungeon.

Again, I have to enter from the same location for that instance. But I am hopeful for getting an expanded entry range.

It's been very helpful in setting up shop. Honestly I can say I'm a businessman through and through. I only go out to fight pirates, privateers, and navies if I need money quickly.

I've honestly had a lot more fun just using my Biomancy to start a business than going around shooting cannons at other people. So far I've earned the equivalent of $27,076,972 USD, in various currencies. Just from selling flowers and plants. I plan on selling a sugarcane breed that is perennial and grows back from where it was cut. Like bamboo.

Also a type of lilac, to go with the drought resistant hemp. There will also need to be clovers and grasses. Animal feed is also important. Spending time with mum has educated me in the aesthetics of gardening, so now I'm applying those techniques to everything else and annoying the living shit out of everyone.

Speaking of being annoying, my Grey Ghost epithet has made the enemies more difficult and harder to track down. I also leave them on normal intelligence so I can learn from my mistakes, but this is getting a bit dangerous. I mean they're flying different colours, paying people for information about me, increasing traffic in the area.

Basically I'm in a target rich environment, and I can't engage. I fire a shot, everything in the vicinity starts sending lead in my general direction.

Having the air around you replaced with lead, brimstone and fire is not a pleasant experience.

My goals so far are stopping the colonial ships. It's very good fun. The slave ships, upon a successful rescue, give me immense monetary rewards. I capture the spice and trading vessels, and sell them to the system. Again for money.

And the navy ships, I sink for personal satisfaction.

I've been on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago for a week and a half now. I should probably leave in a few days. I really have nothing else to do here.

Except Valentina.

*****Grenada*****

Well Valentina went to Spain, and I came to Grenada.

It's a pleasant enough place, I'll see what, if any different types of dungeons are here.

Maybe experiment with Biomancy a bit more? Who knows.
