The rabbit fell dead on the spot, the sharpened bone of one of its fallen brethren lodged between its brows.

Morne, who had shed the extra layers of clothing and was clothed in only his brown tunic, pants, and shoes, emerged from his hiding place behind a tree and lifted the rabbit by its back legs. He grunted happily when he felt the considerable heft. This would be a decent meal.

Eyeing the setting sun with squinted eyes, he decided to head back to his camp, a cramped clearing next to a small pond, whereupon he dropped the rabbit near a small, square stove made of rectangular stones he had found.

It was little more than rocks stacked on top of each other like bricks with a hole in the large middle, but it was good enough.
