Kapitel 18: Bad news

After the reconciliation,things got better between Michelle and Lucas. Lucas is a manager in a brewery company.everyday he would leave for work and come back by 5pm.

one day, Lucas went to work and when he got to work,his boss summoned him.

on getting to the boss office, Lucas met a man with a smiley face.

the boss was a stout man with a pot belly. he was smoking a pipe.

you must be me Lucas he started.

yes Lucas replied.

well congratulation me Lucas your hard work has paid off. I and the board of directors have noticed your diligence in performing you duties and we have decided to promote you to a chief executive. here is your promotion letter he ended while handing an envelope to lucas.

thanks so much sir.lucas said collecting the letter with joy. I'll keep working diligently he said.

no problem you can leave now the boss said.

thanks sir Lucas said and bowed down to leave.

wait! the boss declared when Lucas was close to the door.

help me dispose this he said handing him the cigarette.

ok sir Lucas said collecting it.

Lucas left the boss office going to his office.

because of the excitement within him, he unconsciously dropped the still lit cigarette on the floor and left.

10min later

Boom!!!!!! a loud explosion sounded. the emergency bell ran through the air. everybody exit the building someone announced.

commotion ensued and everyone started running about each trying to get out of the building.

luckily everyone one was able to exit the building before the final explosion that brought the company down to the floor.

everyone outside were lamenting. each trying to ascertain what could cause the explosion......Lucas stood at one corner with guilt all over his face.he knew he was the cause.

realization had dawn on him. where did he drop that cigarette? he asked himself.

oh no he can't stay here any longer else he would be arrested he thought.

Lucas stood up to leave the crowd that gathered around the company.

where are you going Mr Lucas a voice asked freezing him in a spot.oh no he had been caught! he muttered.

now.. where sir he stuttered.

what do u mean by nowhere you are clearly moving away. or are you feeling guilty.

of what? he asked his BOSS.

you know u are the cause of the explosion. I can see guilt all over ur face.

no sir i don't have any connections with the explosion.

really? his boss asked scrutinizing him.where did you drop that cigarette? he asked again.

s....ir i.i.i don't know 😥

what do u mean by you don't know? you know we deal with with chemicals that are flammable so how can you drop a lit cigarette carelessly?

Mr Lucas investigations would be carried out and if it is discovered that you are the cause, you are going to pay for it the Boss concluded and walked away
