"Oh? Do you know who that person is?" the maid shook her head as she walked in and placed the tea on the table.
"He must be a higher noble. They have just found the body and many ran to recognize the body. Do you want me to go and check who the person is?" the maid asked with her head lowered when Ana shook her head.
"No! I will personally go and check. As a host, the safety of everyone was my responsibility to.'' The maid was surprised by her gentle nature.
Most of the nobles were cold and self centered. But Ana had already started walking out and joined the commotion.
Ana took slow steps towards the stairs. She paused to see the viscountess running towards the body of her husband and her eyes grew colder.
"Is it Viscount Felenotia?"
"Is it? But they did not leave for their room hours ago? What was he doing on the stairs!"
"He must be drunk! I tell you, I heard strange voices from their room. They were cursing the new duchess so badly."
Everyone was gossiping but very few were sad or worried about the death of the viscount. When they saw Garrison walking towards the body, they stopped and bowed their heads.
Ana smirked. This was her chance. She walked and stood in front of the viscountess who was crying badly while shaking the body of her husband.
"Fredrick! Please! I am scared, wake up, honey! Please." Filicia cried hard as she pleaded to her husband to wake up.
Ana squeezed out a tear in her eye as she approached the viscountess.
"This is all my fault. I apologize for your loss." her cold hands touched the shoulders of Filicia burning the woman to her core.
She raised her head with hatred and anger in her red eyes as she pounced on Ana.
"Yes, this is all your fault. You took the life of my husband. You are the one who pushed him. Didnt you? I will not let you go! I will take revenge on my husband." she strangled Ana with all her force.
Ana was pushed on the wall. She winced and coughed as she struggled to get rid of the forceful hands of Filicia but her eyes were blurry and her weak body was not strong enough.
Everyone was taken aback by her sudden outburst but soon they came to her senses. Before anyone could go and help, Garrison had already taken hold of Filicia and pulled her away from Ana.
He threw the woman on the ground with force.
"Cough cough! I.. cough cough!" Ana was coughing hard. Red marks could be seen on her neck too.
She looked so vulnerable and flailed at that moment that everyone forgot about the suffering of the viscountess but felt pity for Ana.
"Hey! Have you lost your mind? Why are you attacking my sister?" Elena came running and held Ana in her arms as she glared at the viscountess.
"She killed my husband. Did you not hear? She accepted it in front of everyone. A life for a life. She must be killed and I will be the one to kill her." Felicia shouted as she ran towards Ana again.
Like a mad dog who could not see anything else, Filicia was filled with hatred and revenge. She had lost her husband, her everything.. Ana took her husband!
"Ha! Do you think everyone is a criminal like your family? My sister did no such thing." Elena protected her sister behind her and glared at Garrison as if he was a mistake.
"I apologized because I failed as a good host. I did not know that your husband suffered an accident until the maid informed me." Ana spoke in between her coughs. Her eyes were stained with tears of pain when Felicia gritted her teeth.
"Lies! All lies! You did this! I know that you did. First you played against the baron and now my husband. You are here to ruin all of us. Your highness.." the woman turned to Garrison and held his pants with both hands, "your highness, the woman is trying to kill all of us. She had planned all of this. She is your enemy."
But the garrison pushed her away. He looked at her as if she was filthy.
"I will ask the knights to investigate the matter." before Felicia could complain Elena scoffed and looked at Garrison with hatred.
"You can investigate the death of the viscount Felenotia but what about my sister? This woman had tried to kill my sister in front of everyone. Is she not going to get any punishment? So, what my father and mother had left, I will not let the matter go until my sister gets justice." Many nodded at her words when Garrison looked at Ana.
Her face was red and frail. The marks on her cheek were still red and sore and now her neck was bruised too. She was rubbing her head as if the push had left a bruise there too.
It was her wedding day, yet she looked all battered. His eyes narrowed. Though he knew that his vassal families were corrupted, they could not be such fools to attack his wife openly.
"Take her into custody. The case would be presented in front of the royal court and I will make sure that she will get a severe punishment." Elena finally nodded her head.
"Sister, are you okay? Come, I will take you back to your room." she held Ana's hands and glared at Garrison once again before taking Ana back to her room.
Ana paused in front of Garrison for a second.
"I know so much has happened. But I will be grateful if you can look for my earrings too." he stared deep into her eyes. She was not blaming him like her family. Though he was sure his behavior was biased!
He nodded his head at once,
"I will personally look for your earrings." yes! Do that. So that one more pawn dies from your hands.
