As Valerie hung up the phone, she couldn't help but feel a pang of dissatisfaction. Her friendship with Adrienne was important to her, and the fact that Adrienne had moved without telling her was enough to make her feel a bit hurt. 

But then there was the mysterious man that she heard in the background. Who was he, and why was Adrienne keeping him a secret from her? Valerie wondered. 

Valerie decided to push her feelings aside and focus on the task at hand. She needed to find out what was going on with Adrienne and why she was acting so strange lately. When Myrtle arrived to pick her up, Valerie plastered a smile and tried to act as though everything was normal.
