Kapitel 69: Camp Trap

The night went quickly, and it quickly started to move into the day. I let Kimmy and Emma sleep through the night. When they awoke, I gave them some rations and started to survey the area around me. I took a look and remembered where I laid traps and realized that they spoke around where I would be. They were all focused on the area around the Vines. It would only take someone thinking in the middle of combat or tripping the traps to think something might be over here. So, I would have to expand that net.

Next was where I wanted to fake a camp. I already knew that, and I had some of the tents and things like that I could set up. I would just put it where my captives were camping and set up traps all along that cave up to the spotting post they chose. I couldn't help but wonder if there was a way I could set something up that could have something up there shoot multiple times.

Although I could hope that it would be accurate, it would be best if it shot more than once. I needed to convince them that there was someone up there and that they were firing down on them. At least a clip or two. Maybe two rifles? That meant I needed some way to remote-fire them. I could think of a device already, but it was linking it up and attaching it to something that would allow me to.

There was so much for me to do and so little time to do it in. There was an obvious first thing to do. That was simple to figure out, and I gathered the small packs the scouts were carrying and their rifles. So I started to pick through my things, and I realized I had more than enough guns to go around at the moment from the previous nights.

I had Six Rifles, one of which was a sniper from the first night. All of these rifles took 5mm rounds, which was super useful for laying out traps at this point.

I had twelve assault rifles, all of which took a 5mm round, which was not compatible with my own rifle.

Three shotguns all were pump shotguns, and I thanked the heavens that they were the two that were probably hit by the grenade. They had some more electric charge shots and normal rounds.

I had twenty-five pistols in total, not including my own. Some were revolvers, and there were various calibers, but none of them mattered. I would stick to my own. One was a revolver, which had a super heavy trigger. It's not something useful for a trap, in my opinion. Most of the handguns, in the end, were 9mm rounds and were good for me.

Frowning, I had a lot of ammo for the 5mm, and it was tempting to carry an assault rifle of that type just because of the surplus ammo I had. To be honest, last night's group was more lightly armed than the first group, it seemed. I think they were supposed to link up with the first group and be a force multiplier instead of being on their own.

That would make the most sense anyway.

Instead of contemplating the failings of the previous groups, I was now looking through what I had, and to say it was a little was a lie. I never even noticed how much I made Kimmy carry up when I moved to the last camp. They may have had fewer people, but much more than the second group. I found various supplies and gas canisters for a mini generator. There was a tonne of fuel, and it might be quiet. I might need that to charge the laptop to keep those others alive.

Then there were tents and various other things that I found, which made me happy. I found rope and tarps—string and things to cook. I could start a forest fire if I needed with what I had. I had more than enough food supplies for these people, too. Instantly, I knew I could set up an explosive base camp, but the trigger was the problem.

I went through things and found a couple of remote starters for the camp equipment. I could not help but smile, and I had already found that they had started a small piolet light that I could use to snap a trigger in a small time frame. I could even include the cookware in the fake camp. A grin crossed my face as I thought about what I should be doing.

I got up quickly, moved to look into the crack over the valley, and smiled. It would work, and I could start killing from here without an issue. Instantly, I got up and moved, "Kimmy, Emma!" I announced as they worked on the new prison area. They had barely started to chip into it. They both stopped looking exhausted, and I smiled."Both of you are following me," I told them, and I double-checked to ensure nothing would happen while I was gone.

I set the laptop up in the air where no one could grab it, just in case, and I got Kimmy and Emma to help pick up the things that were needed. Soon, we were going down the giant staircase and dodging the traps.

Instantly, we started to work on my big trap. The enemy wasn't expecting an enemy camp, but what if I provided an abandoned one? What would their reaction be? What if it had some cover in case someone started to shoot them? These were all very good questions and ones that I was happy to wonder because I was not going to be the one who had to answer them.

First, I had Kimmy and Emma start digging, and I started to set up two grenades. Both were flashes, and they would be the last thing to activate. They would be the backup plan to this fight, and I started setting up fuel and various other things into the ground, ready for them to explode. The trigger was a problem; honestly, as long as they all lit on fire, it was a win. I put them under tents so they couldn't be seen and set up some cooking areas.

That was where the trigger was going to be for everything. I was setting up the explosives with four fragmentation grenades that I brought. It would hit the canisters of fuel, and Boom, the fuel and fire would set anyone in the camp on fire. The triggers were all slowly brought over, and all carefully pulled the pins and put them in release mode where the string held them from cooking and blowing up. When the piolet light in the cooking stove, which was running on fuel for some reason, turned on, it would quickly burn the screen, and five seconds later, Boom. It would release everything, and the flashes were set up to take ten seconds from release.

Anyone looking at the fire would be blinded, and anyone caught inside would be seriously hurt. That was my initial plan for the enemy camp. I also planned to do more as well, but for now, this was my start. Kimmy, Emma, and I worked on it through the morning and probably into the afternoon. The camp looked it was abandoned recently or like they had headed out not long ago. But what you couldn't see was the stings ready to set this place ablaze.

Kimmy, Emma, and I were now a little exhausted, and I nodded with a smile. The first big trap was set up near the cave I got them in originally. Then I got Kimmy and Emma to clean up the bodies and bury them with the rest. It didn't take long, and after, we headed back to the base camp. It was time to rest, and I could get some food and let my character nap till nighttime. It would be the best time to start planning my traps.

There was a single question in my mind as we brought back the extra things from setting up the tents. Would they attack at exactly the timer or sometime after?

These weighed on my mind as we started to bring everything back into the base camp. It was a long day, and I handed out the rations and told everyone to rest. The collared mutes looked bored but could remain that way or help out. Which I told them that explicitly. Much to my surprise, two of them started to work on it slowly. I shrugged and went to lie down as I allowed Kimmy and Emma to do, too.

With that, I logged out while putting the speed to a one-to-one ratio again. I sighed in relief, got up, got another sandwich from the fridge, and winced at the poor condition of it. I should probably clean my fridge soon, too. Then, I thought of something fun that I might be able to do.

Instead of letting my mind wander, I took my sandwich to my computer and looked up more traps: old traps and new traps, mostly around the forest. I started to look at tree trap tutorials, and I started to learn something. Most of these traps were for animals, not humans. The fauna and tree growth would make some of these useless to me as well. It was a difference in the forest, but that didn't mean I couldn't find alternatives. There would also be use for trees that could pick up humans. On the way up, I could also have something waiting for them to kill them.

As I planned and read into things, many sinister mind games started to enter my head. Then, something began to set in my mind, and I realized there was such a thing as too many traps. There were too many of them, and they would start to suspect traps around every corner, making them less useful. But, I could also make amature traps outside. Ones that were not lethal and ones that were more lethal but more out of the way. One was to pick off stragglers, while others were meant to wound and capture. That would leave the enemy less suspicious of every corner despite the traps.

I continued eating my sandwich, thinking about how many traps I should set up. I didn't want them to think that the Camp was a trap. I needed to kill as many as possible with that large fuel explosion. Who knew if it would even work properly? But if it did, it would stun the enemy and leave them for me to pick off and kill. That was what I wanted, so the question was, How did I want to set it up to maim and kill as many as I could without triggering too much worry?

I found myself leaning back in question as I looked at a trap setup that poachers use. It was an interesting trap, and I couldn't help but think about using it a couple of times in the forest.
