What humans fail to understand about magic is that it’s rooted in desire.

They think witches are defined by our power when the opposite is true. A witch is defined by who she desires to be. From there, her power takes shape.

When Sebastian dared me to work with him I wanted to say yes. And want for a witch is different than it is for a human because I know how to make my desire manifest here in the tangible world.

Magic isn’t love spells, but it is twisting the love a person already feels in a new direction. It isn’t a spell to make piles of money appear at my feet. Magic is the power to manipulate circumstances and people so that their money appears at my feet.

Magic doesn’t cure cancer or eliminate world hunger. It cannot create something from nothing. If I use magic to heal a person dying of cancer, the cancer finds a home in another host. If I want to feed hungry children I have to take the food from someone else.
