It was strange that Nathan had given up so easily after Kylie's obvious reluctance to see him. He returned to New York that evening, after his visit to Bella's house. John drove him to the Portland Airport and received a heartfelt thank you from the conglomerate that made him proud.

  Nathan made a mental note to monitor John's performance and promised himself to seek a well-deserved promotion. From his experience so far, not many of his subordinates were sincere to him, due to his position. Most were sycophants and braggarts, others hated him secretly. However, Nathan could see John was different. He was eager and ready to help. Even daring to express disapproval of some of the things Nathan did.

  In the executive lounge, Nathan called his investigator. The voice of his trusted investigator sounded enthusiastic. "What's going on?" he asked. "You sound excited."

  "You might be surprised by the news I've got. I was just about to call you, sir."
