11.22% Wretch: Exception To The Rule / Chapter 21: Great Pretender

Kapitel 21: Great Pretender

Watching for a bit as the termites got to work, Axiolypito felt like laughing like a great villain but he contained his urge and taking a final look at the termites eating a way at each of the pillars.

Having made termites eat some partly, the moment the others were done with the ones on the side of the street market, the whole building would collapse without a hitch, although the wood used had been sturdier than expected, the work would be done anyways.

It may have taken longer than initially anticipated but it was no matter, time spent preparing for the demise of many wasn't wasted, the wretch digged his way onto the side of the guild, into a small, little and dark alley.

It was night for now, if his quick math skills were to be believed, and he certainly believed it wholeheartedly, the guild would collapse at the best possible moment, when the most flesh primates would be around.

He would reap the benefits while not even being anywhere close, for he was leaving this damned place behind and doing a tour, for all intents and purposes, his spawners needed specific things to spawn certain things, extending the library from which he could pull minions would do no harm.

It was much like a king visiting some muddy villages to let the peasants know they were definitely inferior, or so the wretch saw things.

Dusting his clothes and stretching a bit he was about to check the streets to make sure no one was around but before he could even take a step, he saw someone.

Both he and that person were shrouded in darkness, light suddenly appeared from behind the wretch, he didn't turn around and instead looked at the person in front of him, his own face was still darkened but not hers anymore.

"Is that the one Feuman?" asked Lolianth her forked tongued sticking out with an ominous sound, her tail tapping in the ground.

"I am certain! To think they were right beneath our feet" responded the flame user.

Cinla was standing by his side, minuscule orbs of light floating around her body.

'An ambush? These critters didn't give up after so many days?' Axio furrowed his brows, crossing his arms as if perplexed by the whole ordeal.

He looked up for a moment and then back at the scaly woman, bringing his two palms together and holding them in front of his chest, far away enough to light could illuminate them.

Having grown scales onto his skin, he spoke:

"What could this be about? Am I getting robbed by my own kind?" he said, forcing on his vocal cords to sound like a child.

Lolianth seemed a bit taken aback but didn't let her guard down enough for the wretch to decide to move.

He didn't know why, but he felt that even if he went at max speed, he was going to get hit by something, he had no clue what could be faster than him around here, for he had yet to turn and acknowledge that the source of light behind him was light magic.

"We know you murdered those children, surrender and we won't have to use force" spoke Lolianth.

Not that they didn't want to kill him but the reward was bigger if he was delivered alive and also, they pretty needed him to confess because Feuman wasn't a reliable source to demonstrate the culpability of the wretch.

He needed to confess at least, which was why Lolianth was trying to make him talk, record his voice with the magical item in her possession and then, if things didn't go well, they would be able to kill him and collect that reward, which was still ample enough.

The crafty bastard they were surrounding didn't miss that they weren't attacking immediately.

He doubted the lower life forms to be able to discern his greatness and knew they only saw him as a small person, a murderer of children no less, giving the image that he was a coward and weakling.

Both were factually, absolutely true even if the monster didn't see it that way at all.

"What children? What are children anyways? How do you spell that word?" he said, retreating his hands back to his side and dropping his child-like voice, since it wasn't bearing any fruit.

'And here I thought she would at least care a bit about another scaled bastard, no honor these people' he thought after asking his ridiculous questions.

"In the carriage, that was in front of the guild, you were still there right? You were the one that summoned those roosters?" she said, if he admitted to the second accusations, it was as good as an admission to the murder, no one believed that it was another party after all.

"Ahh, wait, I remember something..." he tapped his forehead.

"I didn't ask your names" he completely changed subject, watching the lizard woman visibly seethe with frustration.

"Let's change subject, I am Feuman, what to you know of the heretical flame?" chimmed in the fire mage, his curiosity actively working against what he and his group were trying to accomplish.

"Don't know what you're talking about, what does heretical even mean anyways? Everything is exactly as it should, perfectly as intended, for everything is going accordingly to what god envisions" the wretch matched the man's slight insanity and rambled.

"Same for those dead children, they died because they were meant to, no need to worry or cry about it, just like you all, they are meatbags meant to die for a greater purpose, god's purpose" he snickered, he felt like he was going to get hit by something very soon but acted as if nothing could make him waver.

"What god to you speak of?! The heretical god beyong our skies?" Feuman thought he was going to get some juice intel but alas, he was talking to Axio.

"No, that god is me" he responded dryly, matter of factly, sounding almost offended that no one noticed where he was going, as if he had made it even remotely obvious.

But just as he said that, he spread his arms around, a bunch of small spawners flying through the air, all on the verge of breaking from being kept from doing their sole duty.

Once they were allowed to resume their activity, the wretch and his surrounding was engulfed with what seemed like hundreds of moths and other small night fliers.

He received three, thin rays of light at the same time and a fourth that got to him as Cinla shot at random at the cloud of winged bugs.

Feuman sent a regular ball of fire into the air, attracting most of them away as he maintained it in the sky but the wretch had already made his escape but had conveniently left a trail of blood.

'Can't let them think and wonder what I was doing down there, need to keep them thinking they can catch me' he reasoned.
