She's lean back against the wall, looking at her phone when I come out.
"Hey, I just got our YBer ordered, it's right around the corner." She smiled up at me.
"Cool, so where exactly are we going to after this?" I stick my hands in my pockets as we wait.
"It's my favorite place to go to, I hope you'll like it." She says as a Ford Focus pulls up and I open the door for her.
Our Yber guy is not very talkative, just takes us to where ever on the map his directions tell him to go. We pull up in front of a little 24 hour diner along the four story brownstones that line the old district area of our town.
"Momma Mae's? I haven't been here in years." I comment to myself, but she just looks over her shoulder and smiles at me.
"Oh so you know about Momma Mae's?" She opens the door before I can, walking in with a bright smile as one of the waitresses walks up and gives her a quick hug.
"Hey! Your order is ready, let me go grab it." The waitress walks off and goes to grab a bag that bulges with boxes of food.
"They know you here?" I remark noticing the waitress's warm greeting.
"Yeah, I rent one of the apartments above here, that's why they know me so well." She meets the waitress and takes the food, grabbing my hand as she leads me back outside to a gated entryway that she quickly unlocks with a code.
"Come on up, I hope you don't mind, I just had them make you a burger everything on the side." She smiled at me, her eyes twinkling even in the low light of the small courtyard that led up to the door to the apartments.
"Burger is fine with me." I shrug as she leads me up to her apartment and opens it up, turning the entry light on to show off her place.
As she walked she turned on a few more, making my surprise at the interior grow. For being an older brick building, this apartment was like something you'd see in a interior decorating photo or show. Everything is nice and tidy, except for her table that's strewn with text books, a laptop and note pads. Even her kitchen is tidy that I can glimpse as I walk by.
"This is a really nice place you have here." I say still looking around as she takes a seat on the couch and starts pulling out the food boxes, placing them on the table.
"Thanks, honestly I was really lucky the day I got this place. I was down in the diner, going through the paper for apartments, when the waitress downstairs was talking about the available apartment. I jumped up and after paying the first and last, I had it the next day." She smiled as I sat down, taking the burger and putting what I liked on it from the box of toppings that sit on the table.
"Wow, just like that? Had you already been a regular there? Most places do background checks and it takes forever. It took me a month before the management cleared me to move into my apartment and that's with a decent job I've had for over a year at the time."
She's chewing her mouthful that she just took, making me chuckle as she tries to quickly chew her food. Her facial expressions of her eyes going wide and rolling as she chewed and chewed her food were cute.
She swallows, taking a sip of her drink and sighs, "Sorry about that, but not really. I had been in there a few times since it was open twenty four hours, but they were kind enough to take a chance and it worked out. Which I was really grateful for, I was thinking I was going to have to sleep in my car at the time so I would have enough for a deposit somewhere else. That was over two years ago now." She took a smaller bite this time of her food, I noticed.
"Why were you going to have to do that?" I asked genuinely curious.
She cleared her throat and gave a forced and awkward smile, "I moved here with my best friend and boyfriend, I was originally in the dorms at University but when we all moved in together, I got out of the dorms. Long story short, after graduation, I came home early from work and caught them fucking, so I packed my stuff and left."
Taken aback, I say the first thing that comes to mind, "Wow, that's fucked up. I'm sorry."
She shrugs, "It was a while ago, I'm over it. How about you? Why are you in this lovely town?" She leans forward, listening as she takes another bite of her food.
"Well I grew up a town over, went to the University, and now stay because my friend and I have a small business together, doing construction and electrical." I finish my burger as she processes the information.
"Your friend, the pretty boy from the bar? Is that who you own a business with?" She inquires, finishing off her food and taking my trash and hers, placing them in the take out bags.
"Pretty boy...Yeah, Jared has been my friend since we were kids."
"Well, I feel sorry for him if he didn't escape from those crazy chicks he had you sitting over there with him. You looked so uncomfortable, I was about to go rescue you, but then you got up." She giggled.
Her giggle was adorable, making me smile in surprise at her statement, "You were going to come rescue me?" I lean closer to her, propping my head up on the palm of my head, with my elbow on the couch.
"Yes, I was. Not all hero's are knights in shining armor, you know. Sometimes, they're short, awkward, women who can tell when some one would rather be chewing their own ears off, then listen to the conversation around them." She giggled leaning closer, her hand lifting up with those after dinner mints that take out places offer. She pops one in her mouth, still offering the other to me with a grin.
"Mint? I'm going to grab a beer, do you want one or something else?"
I take the mint, popping it into my mouth and ask her, "What else do you have to offer?" The mint quickly starts to dissolve in my mouth, as her eyes raise up to her brows in thought. All I can do is watch those cute lips of hers move, imagining how soft they must feel.
"I have some whiskey, some wine, two different types of beer, water..." She looks at me expectantly to give her an answer when I cock a brow at her, smiling mischievously.
"I think I'll take.... something else." I take her hand that was still out stretched, tugging her to sit onto my lap as my other hand takes her cheek in it, guiding her lips to mine to meet in the kiss I've been thinking of for the past few hours.
