Kapitel 30: The Blair Forest (1)

"Geralt?" A woman spoke as she looked at the man trembling in front of the door.

The man upon hearing his name being called, quickly started running to the woman in fear and hugged her.

"Geralt? Why..." before the woman could finish her sentence, Geralt began to speak desperately:

"THE FOREST IS CURSED! I SAW IT! The witch killed them all, she..." geralt stopped talking for fear that something would happen to him and clung to the woman.

Everyone was shocked to see this scene, after all, geralt was known to be a brave adventurer, so seeing a bearded man lose his posture like this was absurd.

Grace became concerned about that story and asked:

"Have you seen the witch?" After speaking that, all attention was drawn to her, but before Geralt could say anything That same man who had asked them to take off the hood, stood up and shouted:

"Shut up, you bitch!" The man spoke that and threw a bottle of drink at her, to prevent her from asking any more questions about the witch.

The bottle flew at her and as it was about to hit her, Jacob reached out his arm and caught it just inches from hitting grace in the face. After catching the bottle, he opened the cap and started to drink the contents inside.

The people were surprised at that man's reflection and the woman who was looking after Geralt, answered grace's question:

"We don't ask about the witch, because they say it brings bad luck and death."

Jacob finished drinking the bottle and asked a question:

"Geralt, have you seen the witch?" Even after the woman's warning, Jacob asked the question that everyone did not want to hear. Suddenly, that man who had thrown the bottle in grace, ran up to jacob to attack him.

"Sound of footsteps" Jacob heard the man coming towards him, but he didn't even bother to turn his back to see him. Jacob continued eating his soup without caring about the man's presence.

"You think you can come into our town and not respect our beliefs? You son of a bitch!" The man said that and attacked Jacob with a punch, but just as the punch was about to hit Jacob.... Grace drew her sword and slashed the man's arm.

"Aaaaaaahhrr!" The man fell to the ground along with his severed arm as he groaned in pain. The adventurers were shocked by that scene and quickly got up to defend their injured companion, but just as they were about to do so, that same woman who was taking care of generalt, coldly said to everyone:

"Don't do anything!"

"Have you gone crazy, helena?! That bitch cut off William's arm!"

"Are you stupid? You couldn't even see her draw her sword and you're telling me you want to confront her? Think with your heads, men! Helena, who seemed to be the master of the adventurers' guild, shouted those words to the men who were thinking of facing Grace.

The adventurers gritted their teeth in frustration, because they all knew it was true. To face an enemy you can't even see the movements of is irrational!

Grace smiled when she saw that they had given up their attack and put the sword back into its sheath. After this she looked at William who was groaning in pain and said:

"We don't want to cause trouble, we just want information and in return we can help you solve this problem."

"What is your rank?" Helena asked and Grace answered confidently:

"My rank is diamond and a warning to you..." She pointed at Jacob and finished speaking:

"This guy is stronger than me, so be careful when you attack him."

After she said that, everyone's jaw dropped to the floor and some whispered "Diamond rank?" The reason for their shock was something simple, why the strongest person in the adventurers guild was a platinum rank and this specific person was geralt.

"Are you really diamond rank?" Helena asked in surprise and grace nodded and asked geralt:

"Have you seen the witch?"

"N-No... I could only hear her laugh, a macabre old laugh coming from the darkness of the forest."

"Hm, thanks for the information... Then how about letting me and my partner handle that situation?"

Helena wanted their help, not for them to solve the problem by themselves, so she replied:

"We can't let you solve this situation alone, because we don't even have confirmation that the witch's legend is true. But if you want, you can help us find it out. I'm putting together an urgent expedition team for tomorrow, because we have to find the bodies of the others... so, are you willing to help us?"

Grace looked at Jacob waiting for his answer, and he answered with satisfaction:

"All right, we'll help you."

Helena smiled happily and said to the others:

"Give William a potion, take care of Geralt and go to sleep! We have work early tomorrow morning."

The adventurers obeyed the order and quickly began to do as ordered

Seeing that everything was settled, Helena walked over to Jacob and said:

"I wonder if I might know the names of my future companions?"

"My name is Grace and his name is jacob. That's all you need to know about us." Grace answered as she sat down next to jacob and Helena raised one of her eyebrows, but quickly returned to normal and asked jacob directly:

"Why did you come all the way to this town? And Don't tell me you're a legend hunter or something."

"Hm, I have an appointment with the duke of paris."

"Pffff, ok that joke was good." Helena giggled a few times thinking that Jacob had told a joke, but then stopped when she saw the cold expression on his face.

"Wait, are you telling the truth?"

"I have no reason to lie, do I?"

Helena's eyes widened in surprise, but she regained her composure and said:

"If that is so, then allow me to introduce myself again.... My name is Helena shelley, the duchess of paris." She spoke that confidently and smiling while expecting surprised expressions coming from jacob, but to her shock, he continued eating his soup without sketching any reaction at that information.

"..."

Helena scowled and asked confused:

"You weren't surprised?"

"No. Anyway, let your husband know that I will meet him tomorrow after the expedition. So if you'll excuse me..." Jacob finished eating, got up and started up the stairs to go to his room. Grace followed him and the two of them together started up the stairs.

Helena watched Jacob and Grace walking up the stairs and spoke:

"What is it with this guy? Doesn't he know what it's like to be in the presence of a nobleman?"

Seeing that complaining would not change Jacob, she just sighed and went back to doing her duties....

.

.

.

Inside a hallway, jacob opened the door to a room and grace excitedly entered and jumped on the bed. Just then Jacob entered and closed the door.

"Aaaah, this cutie... I miss lying on a bed..." Grace said this as she enjoyed the softness of the mattress and spoke:

"I never want to spend another week in a dungeon! It's so dark and cold and hard there."

"Sigh... There are two of us."

Jacob lay tiredly on the bed and put his arm over his eyes to sleep.

"Hm, are you going to shave that beard off?"

"Sigh, yes..."

"Are you going to cut that hair? It's grown longer than it should be."

"I'm just going to trim the ends."

"Really? Then get up, I'm going to cut your hair now!" Grace spoke animatedly and Jacob sighed wearily as he replied:

"You can cut my hair after the expedition."

"No! You look like a beggar like that and you need to take a good shower..."

Jacob sniffed his armpit to see how serious the situation was and replied:

"Yeah... maybe I need a bath."

"Great! Then sit in the chair, I'll get my special scissors."

Even though he was tired, Jacob got up and walked over to the chair and sat down. After that he watched Grace who seemed not to notice him as she was in such a hurry to get her special scissors.

After a few seconds, she finally found her special scissors which by the way was a knife and said:

"Great, let's get started?"

.

.

.

After 10 minutes....

Sounds of wires being cut could be heard in a room and a female voice:

"There! I got that beard off, now how about we fix this hair?"

"I want just the ends of the hair cut off."

"I know that and you don't have to worry, I'm almost a professional hairdresser."

"Almost? Where did you learn to cut hair?"

Grace wet Jacob's hair as she answered:

"I learned from my aunt. She had a salon and when I went to visit, she would let me cut the mannequins' hair."

"Hm, and do you miss it?"

"Do I miss my old world? Yes, but I admit it could be worse. When I came to this world I thought there would be no toilets, hot water or toilet paper, but fortunately it had everything a human being needs to survive."

Jacob gave a smile, but soon returned to his usual cold expression and asked:

"If you could go back to your world, would you?"

"Hm... That's a hard question to answer. I feel like I can't be a part of that society anymore, because of the deaths and so on... But I would go back because of the foods! Man... You had to try the sweets and snacks that were in my world! They were just wonderful!"

"Oh? Were they that good tasting?"

"Yes! They were my favorite food! But they didn't just have the foods, they also had something called entertainment." Grace finished speaking and began to cut Jacob's hair.

"And that is?"

"entertainment is a way of providing fun and recreation to people while they are not busy with their day to day tasks. It was just wonderful! There were games that you could control someone and cast powers similar to this world."

"And what did you like to do?"

"I liked almost everything: reading, playing games, watching funny videos, watching gossip about famous people."

"Sounds like it was a fun life..."

"Yeah... I miss that peace and that feeling of responsibility, something like finding a job and getting into a college."

"What about your family? Do you miss it?"

"My family... Yes, I miss it. Even though there is a fight every weekend, I miss them. The feeling is as if they have died, it's bizarre... But what about you? Jacob Voss. You had told me that you left your homeland years ago and came to this continent after wealth and glory. Would you go back to your homeland if you had the chance?"

Jacob was thoughtful about what to answer, but replied casually:

"Good question... But I'll pass. It's too late for me by now."

"It's never too late to change the direction of your life. There will always be a new route or a new chance for a fresh start. So the key thing is to never give up and always have hope."

Jacob did not answer her and lowered his gaze, he was thoughtful about those words and was deciding whether to take them seriously or not....

"I used to like to sing too." Grace spoke casually as she cut the tip of Jacob's hair.

"You used to?"

"I still like to sing! But unfortunately there aren't many opportunities for me to show my talent in this world."

"Really? Now you'll have to sing for me."

"No guy! My voice is not so worthy of your ears."

"Oh please, I insist!"

Grace sighed in defeat knowing that Jacob would not leave her alone until she sang, so she replied defeated:

"Okay, I'll sing, but you'll have to tell me a story about yourself or some secret, how about it?"

"That's fair enough."

Grace and jacob smiled as they came to an agreement and the two continued in silence as they let that healthy atmosphere happen...
