93.75% Keep Walking / Chapter 15: 15. Jeremiah

Kapitel 15: 15. Jeremiah

N: Congratulations, you've gotten to the end of the road.

Jeremiah: …

N: …

Jeremiah: …

N: Aren't you going to say something?

Jeremiah: It's just… I don't know what to say. I was that close to the end?

N: No.

Jeremiah: Huh?

N: Well you see. The thing about this road is this. Yes, the events are limited but limited can be any number I choose and I chose none. The doors increase with a geometric progression starting from 1 and increasing by 10, so if you finish one door, you have to finish ten doors. If you finish ten doors, you'll have to finish hundred doors. You get the gist.

Jeremiah: Your plan was to have us walk for eternity?

N: No that was left to you. I did tell you that you had more control over the situation than you thought. There are only three things you could have done. 1. Keep moving through the doors and eventually settle. 2. Stop using doors and jump off the road. 3. Ignore the doors and focus on reaching the end of the road.

Jeremiah: But I didn't even think about getting here.

N: It doesn't matter. The conditions for you to get here were fulfilled the moment you chose to ignore the doors and the voices telling you to stop. Those voices were just from other people that took this journey too by the way.

Jeremiah: Wow.

N: So you get your wish and as a bonus for clearing the challenge known as the infinity road, you can get to ask me as many questions as you like. For now.

Jeremiah: How are Lisa and George?

N: They are reliving that incident for the 980th time now. George seems to have gotten used to the pain but Lisa is a wreck every time he dies. She's stopped trying to stop herself from burning the house with him inside.

Jeremiah: That doesn't sound good at all. What about Aaron?

N: Aaron? He is currently on a 5 game winning streak against his dad. I go watch their games sometimes just to see who's winning. His dad has the record of 100-5 though.

Jeremiah: Now about me. Why are you hiding my memories from me?

N: I did no such thing.

Jeremiah: Then why do I know something is not ok with me?

N: Jeremiah, I think I know what the problem is.

Jeremiah: What is it?

N: The problem is that you are normal.

Jeremiah: Normal?

N: Yes. Normal.

Jeremiah: What do you mean?

N: You spent too much time around odd people and you thought there was something off about you too. There isn't. The only reason I told you I wouldn't be giving you any more memories is because there was nothing else to give.

Jeremiah: What about those kids?

N: Those are your kids, Jeremiah. Why do you doubt it? They are alive and well.

Jeremiah: I don't know. I just… So that was all there was to know about me. This is comical. I was chasing nothing this whole time?

N: It's fine so what is your wish? You can't come back to life, bring someone back to life or wish for more wishes and even if you try to get smart, I'm not obligated to fulfill your wishes.

Jeremiah: I don't even know what to ask for. Let me sit down and think about it for a bit.

𝘼 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙥𝙤𝙥𝙨 𝙪𝙥 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙅𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙖𝙝 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙙.

Jeremiah: Wh… what just happened?

N: Oh right. I forgot to mention. You can bring anything you can think of that has a physical form here. After all this is where you will be spending your eternity.

Jeremiah: That sounds… convenient? Anything I want?

N: Yeah. Even the platform you're on. You thought you were going to land on something when you fell so it formed. We were supposed to be floating together.

Jeremiah: I can float too. You're turning me into some type of hero.

N: Look, can you just make your wish? I have other things to attend to.

Jeremiah: I really don't know what to pick. Wait. Before I wish, you said you told one lie in the beginning, what was it?

N: You haven't forgotten that?

Jeremiah: It just kinda stuck.

N: It was what I said about heaven and hell.

Jeremiah: But they don't exist here.

N: That's what you think. Heaven is just a name, so is hell. Regrets, guilt, malice, these are the things that ultimately cause the loop in events. Now the concept of hell here exists in the minds of all who have taken a step on that road and seen the scary versions of themselves. Do you regret what you did? Do you want to stop yourself from making that mistake? The more you question yourself in that moment, the more you will experience it. There is this popular notion on earth that makes people think that the moment before death if they can ask for forgiveness, they will be spared. They are not wrong but I'm not going to forgive you when you can't forgive yourself and I choose not to bother myself with the actions of humans any longer.

Jeremiah: But what about Aaron? Isn't he okay with himself?

N: Other than feeling bad about George, I wouldn't say he has anything worrying him. He is actually pretty happy looping that event with his father. That's a unique case but I'm sure when he is satisfied, his clock is going to keep ticking forward.

Jeremiah: So you're saying if you are at peace with yourself, the loop will stop and you can live life like normal in the event?

N: Yes. That is how my concept of heaven and hell works here.

Jeremiah: So people like Hana and Lisa are doomed for eternity?

N: You'll never know.

Jeremiah: Ok then

N: So what is your wish?

Jeremiah: So I can't wish for more wishes and I can't come back to life.

N: Yes

Jeremiah: Wait. Can I go back to an event?

N: … Why?

Jeremiah: I'm asking because I want to fix some things and can I … …

N: You can? But why would you…? That is your wish?

Jeremiah: Yeah.

N: All right but keep in mind, you can't say anything about this place or what you heard here.

Jeremiah: Don't worry about it.

George: Yeah… You feeling ok?

Hana: Do I look ok? I'm just happy to be out of that classroom.

Hana's bruise has only gotten worse and she looks like she has aged way more than the rest of them.

George: Sorry about that

Aaron: So Lisa, you enjoyed killing George for what? The thousandth time?

Hana: Wait, what's this about?

Lisa: Let go of me HANA.

Hana: Woah fine then.

George: Lisa, you don't have to leave. It's okay.

Lisa: It's not. It's not okay, George.

George: This is the part where he runs off the stage crying.

Aaron: Is he… is he talking to us?

Jeremiah: That time on the road, what I wanted to tell you was this. I… I AM AN AWFUL DANCER!

George: Hahah what is he doing?

Jeremiah: You were wrong. I didn't train for this moment at all. I planned to embarrass myself because I hated my parents for forcing me to dance.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙙 𝙜𝙖𝙨𝙥𝙨.

Jeremiah: Ok maybe that was too far but my point is everybody makes mistakes and YOU are no better.

George: YES, JERRY!

Jeremiah: It might take days or months or years for you to get over it but that doesn't matter. Everything will be okay with time.

The crowd is now silent and can only watch as Jeremiah speaks on and on.

Jeremiah: Mum, dad, I really do love you. I never got to tell you this much but I really do. And for you guys, you're not any different. Can't you let those things go? Haven't you suffered enough?

George: Lisa… it's okay. I have forgiven you a long time ago, you don't have to beat yourself up like this.

Lisa: But I killed you. I killed you so many times, George and I knew it wasn't me you loved but I loved the feeling of being that person.

Jeremiah: SO APOLOGIZE! APOLOGIZE TO THAT PERSON YOU'VE WRONGED! If he or she can't forgive you then forget about it and move on!

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙘 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙅𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙖𝙝 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜.

Jeremiah: I met a lot of people before I got to this moment and I'll be honest. I don't have that much time here but you do. I don't want you to keep being miserable like I did.

Jeremiah: So it seems my time here is almost up. Don't make me regret using my wish to get you all here and watch me dance.

Aaron: He got to the end of the road?

George: So it seems. JERRY!

Jeremiah: Huh?

George: NEVER DANCE AGAIN! YOU'RE WORSE THAN YOU THINK!

Jeremiah: Oh shut up.

Aaron: JERRY! I HAVE BEATEN MY DAD 6 TIMES NOW!

Jeremiah: Isn't that enough?

Hana: Guys I'm sorry for trying to kill you in the school. I… I…

Aaron: Don't sweat it. We have forgotten about it anyways.

George: Yeah, Hana. Don't worry about it.

Lisa: George… you really forgive me?

George: Yes and you don't have to feel sorry. The fire only hurts the 5th time.

Lisa: You're not making this better for me.

George: Sorry but seriously, it's fine. We made a deal to not judge each other, right?

Aaron: Ahem. I remember someone judging someone here.

Lisa: Give it a rest, Aaron. I still can't believe you lied to me.

Aaron: What??

George: Hah you guys should just hug it out.

Aaron: I'm only forgiving you because George has. If he wasn't here, my kill count would have increased by 1.

Lisa: But I am sorry to you too. I didn't mean to make you feel bad when we are almost the same person.

Jeremiah: So we all made up yet?!

Jeremiah: Just a bit. I don't even know if they got my message.

N: Well they did. They are all feeling better now.

Jeremiah: Really?

N: Yes.

Jeremiah: Now… I can… finally… rest

N: It's been a long journey, hasn't it?

Jeremiah: Yes…

𝙅𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙖𝙝 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙚.

N: How are things on your ends?

N2: None of them made it to the end here.

N3: None of them made it to the end here as well.

N4: Same.

N5: Same.

N1056: One of them made it to the end.

N13205: Two people made it to the end here.

N: So the time is almost upon us. The end of this story.

N stares into the void and doesn't move as if frozen, waiting for someone… something.
