The man's eyes were involuntarily drawn to the long silky raven hair rippling behind a small figure on horseback about a hundred yards ahead. Behind the figure, a distant windmill rose beyond the tiled roofs of the village he and his men were heading to.
A girl, the man thought, squinting when the figure turned her head in his direction.
As soon as he saw the girl's face, he recognized her right away, for she was the reason he and the company of guards had been sent out, even with the threat of war looming on Ephemere's doorstep.
"Elliot!" I called out, abruptly pulling at the reins to stop my horse.
Hearing the anxiety in my voice, his horse whinnied as it came to a stop about twenty feet ahead of me. "What's wrong?" he asked. He turned his head to look at me and followed my gaze.
We're getting closer to the climax and the end! Thank you dear readers for your constant support. I really appreciate all of you <3
